Day 1 - 25 Dec 2020
Content: Trip starting and waiting for our flight! Empty airport due to covid.
Content: Very empty plane! Flew with Qatar Airways and got excellent service.
Day 2 - 26 Dec 2020
Content: After 3 flights we finally got to Malindi, a beachfront village in the Mosambik coast. We slept in Woburn Residence Club with great staff and a huge pool. Malindi village is not that popular among tourists. It has beaches, but better ones you’ll find in Watamu area that is quite close by. Driving in Kenya is ok, but beware the road bumps that will make you jump to the roof every 5 minutes!
Content: There are many good restaurants in Malindi but you need a car or tuktuk to get there.
Day 3 - 27 Dec 2020
Content: Watamu Beach is a beautiful, sandy beach with turquoise water. There is a marine park close by where you can dive and snorkel.
Content: Perfect place for lunch! Good food and drinks and directly on the beach.
Content: Afternoon swims and then back to Malindi to get ready for dinner. December is one of the best months to visit Kenya, the weather is hot and sunny and sea temperature is like taking a bath!
Day 4 - 28 Dec 2020
Content: Today we went to look for the beaches close to Malindi. They are nice but we prefered Watamu. However, if you’re looking for budget accommodation, then choose Malindi! It’s a lot cheaper as it’s not that popular. The distances even to the restaurants can be quite long so I recommend renting a car!
Content: There are several nice beach restaurants in Malindi and Watamu. Remember to bring cash as they rarely accept cards!
Day 5 - 29 Dec 2020
Content: Beach 5mins walking distance of the hotel. Sandy, huge beach. Nice but not as pretty as in Watamu.
Content: Driftwood Beach Club We had several dinners here during our trip. Great restaurant on thd beach, great food and drinks, lovely staff!
Day 6 - 30 Dec 2020
Content: If you are a diver, book a dive in Watamu Marine Park. Easy dives going along a mild current.
Day 6 - 30 Dec 2020
Content: Again in Driftwood Beach Club as they have live music nights and invited us!
Day 7 - 31 Dec 2020
Content: Today we moved to Diani area on the other side of the Mosambik coast. Diani is a much more popular area with a lot of tourists and beautiful beaches. However, it is very hard to find good accommodation with reasonable prices.
Day 7 - 31 Dec 2020
Content: New Year’s Eve on the beach! Because of covid, no big celebrations but nice restaurants and hotel parties.
Day 8 - 1 Jan 2021
Content: Today we went on a snorkeling trip to the sandbank in front of Diani beach. You just take a boat from the beach and negotiate with the captain! This tour was better than I expected: we saw pufferfish, sea snake, crabs, starfish, coral and so many colourful fish! It’s a very easy snorkeling destination as you can reach the bottom anytime. Suitable for everyone! This trip must be taken in the morning because of the tides.
Day 8 - 1 Jan 2021
Content: After snorkeling we had some time to chill on the sandbank and swim. A really nice daytrip destination.
Day 9 - 2 Jan 2021
Content: We slept in African Dream Cottages, that are bungalows with a pool area and restaurant. The place was ok, cleanliness so-so but very nice pool area and owner.
Day 9 - 2 Jan 2021
Content: There are some really nice restaurants on the beach. During peak season you might want to make a reservation!
Day 11 - 4 Jan 2021
Content: Today we arrived to Masai Mara National Park. We flew to Nairobi and our guide picked us up. It is one of the most popular national parks in the world! It has it all: lions, leopards, wilbebeest, elephants, giraffes, warthogs, monkeys, snakes and even the rare African wildcat! It is a very large park so you’ll need several days here.
Content: Before going to our Lodge we spotted a leopard! We did the safari with African Marvel Tours and Ben as our guide. Really good company! We got luxury accommodation with economy prices and private tour for 7 days.
Day 11 - 4 Jan 2021
Content: We slept in Zebra Plains Mara Camp. Really luxurious accommodation in the wild, beautiful lounge areas!
Day 12 - 5 Jan 2021
Content: After breakfast we continued to explore Masai Mara! No slow mornings on safari as there as so much to see!
Content: Our guide took us to the river area with hippos and crocodiles! Take some money for the rangers there that will give you a walking tour.
Content: You rarely get to walk in the national parks so this walking tour on the river area is highly recommended!
Day 13 - 6 Jan 2021
Content: Masai Mara adventures continues! We spent 4 nights in the park. Today we spotted giraffe babies! Make sure to bring binoculars and a good camera
Content: After lunch we also spotted a young and very curious elephant baby!
Day 14 - 7 Jan 2021
Content: Today we drove for hours to Amboseli national park right underneath thd Kilimanjaro mountain. We slept in Zebra Plains Amboseli Camp and loved it! We even got a walking tour in the surroundings! It is a very luxurious camp in the wild, highly recommended!
Day 14 - 7 Jan 2021
Content: View to Mount Kilimanjaro from our terrace!
Day 15 - 8 Jan 2021
Content: Today we did a full game drive day in Amboseli National Park. This is also a very beautiful park with almost all the same animals as in Masai Mara (of course, this park is a lot smaller). This park has lots of ponds and lakes that attract the flamingos and other birds!
Day 15 - 8 Jan 2021
Content: We also saw hippos running to the water here!
Day 16 - 9 Jan 2021
Content: It was our last day and we hadn’t seen any rhinos, the only animal missing from the big 5. Our guide told us about Nairobi National Park where there are a lot of rhinos as well as other animals. We went there and looked for 30 minutes, then we saw a rhino mum with its baby! We also saw lions mating! This park is higlh rdcommended to visit and you’ll only need a few hours.
Content: Here’s one of the rhinos we saw! In the night, we headed back home and our guide dropped us to the airport. Until next time! I hope you enjoyed exploring Kenya with me and hopefully I managed to give you some useful tips! Enjoy Kenya and happy travels!
