Content: With my friends, I planned an adventurous trip to explore Volcanoes national park. It is one of the favourite places for adventure lovers. It is located in the northwest of Rwanda. Gorilla trekking was the most prominent activity in Rwanda, was truly a breath-taking experience. We took RwandAir from London to Kigali International Airport. The airport was located very close to the city, Kigali. It was a wonderful city, the capital of Rwanda. We spend a night in the city.

Content: We checked in to the Kigali Marriott Hotel. It was located in a comfortable place. They provided a luxurious stay with a stylish room. Their modern accommodation provided a relaxing experience. The staffs were very polite and friendly. We took some time to get refreshed and started our city tour.

Content: We stepped into the soil of Rwanda. Hired a taxi to Kigali Genocide Memorial, the most popular point in the city. Motor taxis were a very comfortable mode of transportation. It was a unique place because it features as a memorial, museum moreover as a resting place of over 200,000 Tutsi murdered. We picked up their audio tour to know more about the place. First, it led us through the gardens and Burial Place. We saw mass graves of victims and a huge black-marble wall etched with the names. Then we moved inside the museum where we saw many exhibits. We saw a room filled with human skulls and bones. The first exhibit was the most striking one that tells the story of Rwandan society. We saw The Children’s Room on the second floor. Inside the room, we could see large photos of children with labels. We stepped out from the building to the outside. The garden was very peaceful with lots of trees and plants. It was worth visiting, a very informative place.

Content: We had a Rwanda buffet lunch from a restaurant. Of course, Rwanda is well-known for the lunch buffets. We head that Rwanda foods were neither spicy nor hot. The restaurant provided a wide variety of dishes in their buffet. We found fresh salads accompanied with some dips. Then we had hot meals, the isombe was a common dish. It was too delicious. Chicken and meat were also available. We enjoyed a perfect meal and headed to explore a market.

Content: Then we visited Kimironko Market. We believed that visiting a local market in a city is the best way to study the culture and lifestyle of the people. It was a large complex popular for Rwanda's traditional dishes. Fabrics are the masterpiece of Rwanda, we found very bright and beautiful patterned dresses. We enjoyed walking through the rows of fresh fruits and vegetables. One local vendor said that it was the busiest place in Rwanda city. We found many pocket-friendly items around the market.

Content: After breakfast, we spend a half-day around the city. It was a very peaceful city with extremely kind people. We strolled through the street to explore the city.

Content: We had lunch at the hotel. The food was very heavy and delicious. Both international, as well as traditional dishes, are available. The ambiance of the restaurant was excellent. After lunch, we headed to Musanze, Volcanoes national park for overnight.

Content: The main purpose to visit the Rwanda was Volcanoes national park. The activities such as gorilla safaris and hiking Re the attractive thing about the park. It is famous for the mountain gorillas and the research base for famed zoologist Dian Fossey. Choosing the best time to visit was recommended. Mid-December to Mid-February is very ideal to visit the park.

Content: We checked in to the Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel. The staff was welcomed us with a smile. Volcanoes have varied accommodations, from the forest luxuries of Bisate Lodge, Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge to One and Only Gorilla's Nest Lodge. Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel was the best deluxe option. Highly recommended as it was the perfect starting point to go for different activities that the Volcanoes National Park. The hotel features both bedrooms ideal for families as well as solo travellers. We took as a deluxe room which was accompanied by a king-size bed, bathroom with bathtub, and a changing room. We had a comfortable sleep for a reasonable price.

Content: We headed to explore the day after a classy breakfast from the hotel. We travelled to Rwanda Development board headquarters (R.D.B). We took packed lunch with us along with valid ID proofs. It is essential to take a gorilla trekking permit in advance. We could learn about the facts and figures about the mountain gorillas. A person gave brief description about the trek. Each group was accompanied by a trained guide. He was a very trained and knowledgeable person. He gave each and every piece of information about Gorillas and their habits. The first thing that he told that never use a flash when photographing the gorillas. We were very excited to meet Gorillas face to face.

Content: Our journey started from a village, full of excitement. Our group was led by a professional guide, he said that he had his own gorilla family, which he visits every day. We were assigned with a group of travelers from the east. We spent around 1 hour walking our way up through the farm fields until we arrived at the edge of the jungle. We took a short break enjoying the atmosphere. Then we headed into the jungle. Our hiking was very vibrant on steep, narrow footpaths, and walking through a dense jungle made the day memorable. We were very conscious about the signs of Gorillas on the way, such as footprints, dung, chewed bamboo, etc. He instructed us to stay together and hunch down while observing the gorillas. Soon he spotted a young silverback and a female behind a bush. Then we moved into the jungle furthermore where we spot babies. They were very cute and funny rolling around and grappled with each other. The forest was very vibrant with trees such as alpine bamboos and Guinea plums. The guide as us not to make loud sounds or sudden movements while in their presence. We walked very carefully, by observing their behaviours. We got an hour to just sit and observe these animals in their natural habitat. The trek to see these species was an unforgettable experience. The entire hike through the forest was very challenging as well as adventurous.

Content: Evening our guide took us for a cultural tour. It is another popular activity in the park. Ibyiwacu cultural village tour gave an exceptional experience for us. It offered a chance to meet local community people and to sense their tradition and culture. Our guide was very helpful to explore different sites and to experience the lives of the local people. We met a traditional healer, from him we came to know about their traditional medicines and interesting stories. We visit the Batwa community who was engaged in pottery making. It was really an amazing activity that offered direct interaction with people to know their lifestyle. At the end of the tour, we got a chance to participate in the 'Igitaramo'. It was a cultural event where we saw their traditional dance. The setting of the event was amazing, a campfire was set before the sunset for the entertainment activities. It was a fun-filled experience.

Content: After early morning breakfast, we packed lunch and headed to visit Golden monkeys. The Golden Monkey trek is one of the easy activities in Volcanoes National Park. We reached headquarters for the briefing session. We met park ranger guides for some instruction. They admit us with a large group of people. Then we drove to the start of the trek which is 15 minutes away at the edge of the park. Just like Gorilla trekking, we took permits to visit Golden Monkeys.

Content: We reached the starting point in a convoy to start the walk. We walked for 40 minutes through the farmland with a walking stick. Then we entered a Bamboo forest. These endangered species of monkeys live at the bottom of the mountain range in the bamboo forest. We felt very easy to follow clues of fresh leftovers from an eaten bamboo shoot and leaves. We soon spotted beautiful monkeys who skilfully picked bamboo shoots and young bamboo leaves. We spend an hour taking pictures and studied their behaviour. They were very cute and funny. Then we return to the base.

Content: Afternoon we went to visit Musanze caves. It is one of the popular spots because of its location. It was located at the foothills of Volcanoes National Park. After driving an hour we reached the door of the hole. We bought entry tickets from the Rwanda Development Board office. We were accompanied by a friendly guide. He gave a torch, helmet, and gloves for safety. He said that the cave was used as a shelter during wartime. Now it served as a tourist home for bats with passages and tunnels. The tour into the cave gave a deep understanding of the geological facts about the development of the earth. We felt very cool and quiet because of the presence of streams of water flowing slowly out of the rock ceiling. There are many great and dazzling sites for picture-taking. Well-developed walkways and stairs led us to the darker part of the cave. It was a very safe and adventurous trip.

Content: We return to the hotel for an overnight stay. The hotel was dressed with beautiful gardens so that the climate was cool and refreshing. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant.

Content: After breakfast, we headed to the headquarters. Like other activities in the park, hike to Dian Fossey's gravesite required a permit. We got directions and instructions from the authorities. They gave a short description of the hike. From them, we understand about Dian Fossey, who dedicated her life to researching the mountain gorillas. She was buried among the gorillas near her Karisoke Research Centre. The guide gave pieces of information about the place. Then we transferred to the trailhead.

Content: We walked further for 10 minutes to the park boundary. The real hike started from the park boundaries. The way towards Dian Fossey gave was very interesting and comfortable. For the first few minutes, we walked around the outside area of the park. We could observe stunning views of the Virunga volcanoes. Then we climbed along Mt. Bisoke, few minutes later Dain Fossey's tomb trail will break off from the Mount Bisoke hiking trail. The forest scenery was a very attractive and unforgettable experience. We could spot several wild birds in trees. The walk took about 3-4 hours from the starting point. Of course, it purely depends on one’s fitness and ability to hike. We saw the house where she was murdered and buried. The emotional fact was that she was buried next to her favourite Gorilla and along with other mountain gorillas who were killed by the poachers. Then return to the base where we met our driver. He transferred us to the hotel.

Content: We packed our belonging and checked out from the hotel. The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. It was a perfect place to stay. Then we travel back to Kigali city to board our flight to home town. This was a memorable as well as a more adventurous trip for us.
