Day 1 - 23 Dec 2020
Content: I arrived early in the morning after an overnight flight from Doha. I had decided to stay the first days in Mahé island - the main island, and I took a very expensive taxi from the airport to my hotel. The best way to get around the island is by renting a car, so that's what I did the next day. It's also a lot cheaper than using taxis.
Day 1 - 23 Dec 2020
Content: I stayed the first two nights at Hilton Seychelles Northolme, located in the north part of the island. I was pretty tired from the trip, so I spent the first day relaxing at the hotel.
Day 2 - 24 Dec 2020
Content: The first two days were quite windy and rainy. It wasn't the best beach weather, but a good chance to rent a car and explore the island. Renting a car is cheap in the Seychelles. I paid 30€/day for the rental and had a car for the entire length of my trip. The Covid travel restrictions at the time also prevented tourists from using public transport, so the rental car was the only solution as taxis are expensive and not very flexible.
Content: I visited Beau Vallon Beach, which is one of the most famous beaches on the island. In my opinion, it is not the most beautiful one, but there are lots of restaurants by the beach, so it's a nice place to have lunch.
Day 2 - 24 Dec 2020
Content: I also drove to the capital city, Victoria, and saw the famous clock tower there.
Day 2 - 24 Dec 2020
Content: In the evening, I drove to the south part of the island to watch the sunset and found a great spot on Baie Lazare beach.
Day 3 - 25 Dec 2020
Content: On day three, I drove to the south part of the island again and checked into another hotel called Chez Batista Villas. It's located in the south part of the island on Takamaka beach, and it was a good base for me to explore the southern region. The rooms in the hotel are pretty basic, but the location is stunning. The bungalows are located right by the beach, and there is also a swimming pool for the guests.
Day 3 - 25 Dec 2020
Content: After checking into my hotel, I drove to Petite Anse beach. It's a famous and very beautiful beach inside the Four Seasons resort, but anyone can visit the beach for free. You have to walk a bit from the parking lot, though. It wasn't busy on the day I was there, so I was lucky to find this beautiful spot and got it all to myself.
Content: After spending the day on the beach, I went to this cute restaurant called Maria's Rock Cafeteria that was located on the way. They had a really nice vegan option where you could grill your own vegetables on a hot stone.
Day 4 - 26 Dec 2020
Content: I drove to Eden Island to see this artificial island that mostly has luxury accommodation, a shopping mall, and restaurants. I had a tasty lunch there at an Indian restaurant called The Maharajas. I ate outside on the terrace, where I had lovely sea views.
Day 4 - 26 Dec 2020
Content: I spent the rest of the day relaxing at my hotel, swimming in the ocean, and watching the sunset. Takamaka beach, where my hotel was located, offers fantastic sunset views.
Day 4 - 26 Dec 2020
Content: I ate dinner at DoubleTree by Hilton Seychelles Allamanda Resort. They are located just a short ride away from my hotel, and they had great vegan options. I had a falafel wrap with fries.
Day 5 - 27 Dec 2020
Content: On day 5, I took a ferry from Mahe to Praslin Island. You can easily book ferry tickets online. While waiting for the ferry, I had lunch at the port - fried rice with vegetables and passionfruit juice.
Day 5 - 27 Dec 2020
Content: I made it to my hotel in Praslin. My hotel choice here was Amitie Chalets Praslin, and I had a lovely chalet right by the beach surrounded by this lush garden.
Content: I spent an afternoon relaxing on the beach and reading my book. I spotted a lot of Seychelles giant day geckos - a gecko species that lives on the islands of Praslin. Some of them were very curious, and one of them actually jumped on my leg.
Content: The sunset views from my hotel were terrific as they have always been in the Seychelles.
Day 6 - 28 Dec 2020
Content: I rented another car here in Praslin and spent the day driving around the island and visiting several sights.
Day 6 - 28 Dec 2020
Content: The first stop was Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve. Here you can do a small hike in the rainforest and see the famous coco de mer - a rare species of palm tree native to the Seychelles. There are a few route options, and I walked the longest one, which takes you to a beautiful viewpoint.
Content: After the hike, I drove to Anse Volbert, where I had a delicious vegan lunch at Cafe des Artes Restaurant. This restaurant is a must-visit on the island - a very beautiful location by the beach and delicious food. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options as well.
Day 6 - 28 Dec 2020
Content: After that, I drove to Anse Lazio. It's the most famous beach in Praslin and for a good reason - it has picturesque postcard views, white sand, and crystal clear water.
Day 6 - 28 Dec 2020
Content: For sunset, I drove north from my hotel and stopped a little bit after the airport for this spot.
Day 7 - 29 Dec 2020
Content: Today I took a ferry to La Digue Island. I decided to make a day trip there from Praslin, but it's also possible to stay there longer. I took a ferry early in the morning and returned the same night. I had a full day to explore the island, and because the island is so small, it's possible to see everything in one day.
Content: La Digue doesn't have car rental agencies and only a handful of taxis. The best way to get around here is by renting a bicycle. You can find rental bicycles at the ferry port.
Day 7 - 29 Dec 2020
Content: I rented a bicycle and cycled first to the most famous beach: Anse Source d'Argent. You have to buy a ticket to visit this area of the island. This has to be one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen, and I had a chance to fly my drone and get some epic aerial shots.
Day 7 - 29 Dec 2020
Content: After spending some time exploring Anse Source d'Argent, I then cycled to another beach: Grand Anse Beach. I had lunch at a restaurant there, and I tried to go swimming, but the waves were huge and the current too strong.
Day 7 - 29 Dec 2020
Content: I cycled back to Anse Source d'Argent for swimming and spent the rest of the time there before heading back to the ferry and returning to Praslin.
Day 8 - 30 Dec 2020
Content: I took a ferry back from Praslin to Mahe. For a hotel, I had booked Sunbird bungalow, which is a private apartment owned by a local woman. The location is a bit far from the city, so you would need a car to stay here, but I had the car rental anyway, so it wasn't a problem. The apartment was lovely and also had a great kitchen, so I could cook my own food if I felt like it.
Content: I ate delicious vegetable curry for lunch at this restaurant located a close to my apartment.
Content: My apartment was just a short walk/ride away from Anse Louis beach, and although it was a bit rainy that day, I visited this beach just to see how it is.
Day 9 - 31 Dec 2020
Content: On my last day, I visited Anse Royale beach. I had driven past this small beach before but only visited it properly now. I found this place to be perfect for snorkeling.
Day 9 - 31 Dec 2020
Content: In the evening, I drove to this last area of the island I had not visited before and went to Port Launay beach.
Day 9 - 31 Dec 2020
Content: On my way back to my apartment, I stopped for dinner at Del Place restaurant. The restaurant is located right by the water, so you can also enjoy beautiful sunset views while having dinner.
Day 9 - 31 Dec 2020
Content: After that, it was time to drive to the airport to catch my flight.
