Content: We spent our first morning in Java at Ijen homestay and wandering around through the surrounding rice fields. Beautiful scenery.
Content: There are tons of nameless small family run restaurants within walking distance of the accommodation. This is traditional Java cuisine and so tasty.

Content: Book a tour with your guesthouse to the Ijen volcano. You’ll depart for a midnight hike up to the summit and then enter the mouth of the volcano to see the blue fire sulfur flames. It’s a strenuous journey but absolutely beautiful and worth the $30 price tag. Be sure to bring snacks.

Content: Take the train from Banyuwangi to Probolinggo. Costs about $5 for 4 hours on very comfortable train cars.

Content: High in the mountains of Cemoro Lawang (you’ll take a shared taxi from Probolinggo) take another midnight hike up to King Kong Hill to watch the sunrise over mount bromo. Another active Indonesian volcano.

Content: After King Kong hill hike across the sea of sand from town to reach the volcano. It’s a long dusty walk but then you don’t have to pay the park entrance fees.
Content: Hike up the stone steps to the summit to see inside the crater. You can also walk around the rim if you are feeling daring.
Content: This is the most budget friendly accommodation in the small village. It’s right across the straight from the best (and only) breakfast place. Get the crepes.

Content: This entire town painted itself rainbow hues to attract tourists. Great way to spend an afternoon.

Content: Yogya is known for its cheap street food markets and street art. Wander the old city today and find your favorites.

Content: Batik artisans make these elaborate designed fabrics and paintings. You can watch the artisans and pick up some of their work in town.
Content: This park in Yogyakarta is known for the two Beringin trees and glowing cars that come out at night. The story is you can blindfold yourself and try to walk between the two massive trees to have good luck.
