Day 1 - 8 Dec 2019
Content: Took Qatar Airways from New York to Colombo via Doha. Had descent journey with helpful staff. But aweful service on the airport. Took lot time clearing security check.
Day 1 - 8 Dec 2019
Content: We left for our first destination that was Negombo, 45 mins drive from Colombo. Super fine 3* hotel to stay with. Very clean and comfortable the staff are always smiling and very helpful.
Content: Visited Grill Bar in Hotel for dinner was really disappointed. Our food was not up to a standard that you would expect .
Day 2 - 9 Dec 2019
Content: Beautiful temple and very friendly staff unlike what other reviews say. The entrance is so beautiful and unique. If you are in the area of Negombo its well worth a stop.
Content: Nice place for a day out with family. There are so many educational stuff, animals and also can have a fun with rides. Don't forget to take your camera. This is a good place for foreign visitors to visit, as they can learn a lot about ancient Sri Lanka.
Content: Nice sandy beach. At evening can see a beautiful view of sun set. On Saturday and Sunday it’s too crowd but other days it’s okay.
Content: Very tasty and good quality food. Took some time to get the food out but worth the wait. The owner and staff was very friendly and service was very good. Got free desserts, coconut with chocolate.
Day 3 - 10 Dec 2019
Content: Left early morning from Negomba and reached directly to Dambulla Cave Temple it was 3 hours drive. Beautiful temple with amazing carvings. Be mindful of the clothing restrictions. The ticket counter is at the bottom of climb make sure to buy them before you start for the top. The golden temple is huge and breath taking.
Content: One of the most beautiful places in Dambulla where the gorgeous views, nature walks and quaint vibe will grip you. The Jathika Namal Uyana is a rare attraction on earth and one of the most unique with its pink quartz mountain range topping the list.
Day 3 - 10 Dec 2019
Content: The huts are modern and huge with enourmous full wall windows overlooking the natural landscape. If u want Serenity and tranquility this is the place. As located at a forest, there is a very good chance you see elephants or other animals.
Content: After a long day travelling it was rest time and we ordered food in room. Exceptional service, incredible and tasty food it was.
Day 4 - 11 Dec 2019
Content: It’s a very busy tourist destination. You can see lot of monkeys and please be careful with your belongings. There also some honey bees around there. Don’t disturb them if you like to visit again.
Content: The climb is energetic and suited to those with a minimum of good fitness and agility climbing steps. We loved it. Footwear with good grip are the best for safety. We wore hiking boots as we packed them.
Content: The elephant rides at Sigiriya usually begin at the same site or Habarana, a city located about 20 minutes away from Sigiriya. The rides occur at Sigiriya Wewa, a lake near the rock fortress. One can enjoy the scenic surroundings, stunning views of the majestic fort and the opportunity to be up close with these gentle giants.
Content: The most iconic structure of the Sigiriya fortress, Lion’s Paws is situated just before the summit of Sigiriya Rock. As the name suggests, the structure is composed of two gigantic paws, flanking a staircase that leads to the royal palace.
Content: The vegetable rice curry is delicious as well as the vegetable soup and vegetable noodles. A bit more expensive than other restaurants but quality was great. Staff was friendly.
Day 5 - 12 Dec 2019
Content: Be prepared all entrance fees are expected to be paid in Sri Lankan Rupees 4550 pp or US $25.00. Credit card was not accepted. The ruins are spread over several areas and we were glad we had hired tuktuk. This is one of the areas where an audio tour would have been helpful for tourists to understand the significance of each section as the signage on the ruins did not match up with the map/key provided at the first call in the Museum/office. It was fun filled half day trip.
Content: Good place if you want change from traditional Sri Lankan cuisine. A very small pizzeria in Sigiriya which does excellent pizzas made in front of you and baked in a proper pizza oven.
Day 6 - 13 Dec 2019
Content: After breakfast we left for Kandy, it was 3 hours drive. Good hotel to relax, but the staffs are not that friendly.
Content: It's a nice place to see the Buddhist culture and architecture of the Kandy Kingdom. Have to follow the dress code. Do not carry plastic bags inside. Should prefer to visit in the morning on regular days as it is very crowded.
Content: Lots of places to sit and relax or eat (the food you brought). I loved the educational section with all the plants with name boards and the Orchid section. A beautiful tranquil setting amongst amazing trees and plants. Great for a peaceful picnic lunch. You can easily spend the day here.
Content: You can spot different bird species resting on low tree branches. There may be locals offering tickets to the Kandy cultural dance which begins at 5pm. The lake is very big, takes about an hour to cover
Content: Resorts signature dinning experience was superb. Enjoyed all international cuisine and moreover we were amazed by the service.
Day 7 - 14 Dec 2019
Content: Train travel in Sri Lanka is a beautiful and affordable way to see the country. No trip is more scenic than the train from Kandy to Ella! You will see beautiful green hills covered with tea plantations, mountains, lovely old bridges, waterfalls, small villages, and you are greeted by lots of local kids running along the train tracks. At each train station on the way, the train cabins get filled with sellers hustling treats like freshly cut pineapple and mango with cinnamon, corn with salty butter, freshly made rice and curry, chili fritters, and crispy papadums.
Content: Beautiful views and extremely comfortable hotel. Staff were amazing. Highly recommend staying here. We had our dinner at hotel's restaurant which was delicious and set menu was of great value.
Day 8 - 15 Dec 2019
Content: The hike takes around 2 hours round trip, but remember to pack enough water and snacks to power your journey. The route can be a little complicated, follow the clearly marked paths and ignore the touts.
Content: Diyaluma may be a little off the beaten track, but the epic views and natural infinity pools make the 1.5-2-hour journey more than worth the effort. We took a tuk tuk from the town of Koslanda and hike up to Diyaluma falls.
Content: Due to the sheer volume of water this hike should only be completed during the dry months, and with the assistance of a local guide. We recommend visiting early morning or late afternoon, as the area can get pretty busy during the day. Also, be sure to grab a King Coconut or boiled corn at one of the street vendors before heading back to Ella.
Content: Cafe Chill is located right in the centre of town. Serving delicious western-style food, cocktails and a decent soundtrack. We highly recommend the vegetarian burger, which was our western-style treat during a week of eating rice and curry.
Day 9 - 16 Dec 2019
Content: Left from Ella early morning after breakfast for Udawalawe 2 hours drive. Fabulous day out, saw 2 herds of female elephants and a solo male. Keep an eye out for water buffalo, monkeys, water monitor lizards, sambar deer, and even the occasional leopard. There are also many indigenous bird species like hornbills, eagles, and the distinctive red-faced malkoha. Be prepared for a rocky ride as the road network is all dirt tracks.
Content: Stayed only one night, rooms and hotel were very good. Had Spa facilities, but just didn't have the time to indulge. After day long at safari took rest for couple of hours and head to its restaurant for buffet dinner with a great choice of food both international and Sri Lankan.
Day 10 - 17 Dec 2019
Content: Reached Somerset Mirissa after 2 hours drive. The staff is welcoming and location is walking from coconut hill and beach.
Content: We soon got fresh and walked towards mirissa beach which was 10 mins away. We had great time. Lots of restaurants, pubs, amazing food, great people and lots of activities. It wasn’t crowded.
Content: A top sunset spot in the area. Watching the golden glow filter through the tops of the palm trees was something pretty special. While the lighting and scenery was absolutely beautiful, it was extremely busy for sunset.
Content: Taste of food at Somerset today wasnt that great like it was yesterday, even staff did not cooperate for changing our dish which wasnt cooked properly.
Day 11 - 18 Dec 2019
Content: Today we have whole day excursion at Galle, we started of early to cover every part of it. The commanding bastions offer great vantage points, the entire fort walls will take an hour to stroll around. The older tiny Portuguese fort gives you a sense of History and the fort's resturant and cafes a place to hangout and avoid the heat. Best seen at Sunrise as very quite.
Content: One of the main attractions for coming to Galle but it’s more significant in terms of historical and cultural importance. This lighthouse is not very tall and you cannot enter inside. It's a beautiful place for a walk specially early morning when there are less people.
Content: A great monument to see, do not need longer than 10-15 minutes to see the monument itself, there are little building next to it where the monks reside. Just make sure you cover to around you knees out of respect.
Content: Beautiful and small beach, but it's crowded and polluted. So we couldnt enjoy much and left in sometime only.
Day 11 - 18 Dec 2019
Content: This was most luxury hotel i have visited in Sri Lanka, after rushing early morning for Galle side seeings we spend our day relaxing at this property. We spend evening swimming at private pool.
Content: They have a big menu with different rotis like chicken, bacon, prawns, avocado etc. It is very cheap as well and the service is fast. It was very different experience.
Day 12 - 19 Dec 2019
Content: Left early morning from Hikkaduwa, 2 hours drive it was. Mostly Buddha statues are displayed. Some interesting are Buddha hair and a replica of Jade Buddha statue. When you have time in Colombo its worth to visit. At least you need an hour to go through it.
Content: Rent bicycle for cheap and Ride on the cycling track. You can also walk along the pavement where artists are selling their artwork and paintings.A very beautiful green place to spend time with family.
Content: When you arrive you will be faced with dozens of kites which makes for a great visual. It's full of families with kids so had a great energy. There is also a bunch of restaurants and stalls to get a snack or curry.
Content: It was end to our memorable trip to Sri Lanka. Had wonderful 12 days with nature. Had flight for New York at 6:30 pm.
