Escape Beach Resort

Bo Phut, Koh Samui, Escape Beach Resort

Content: We had completed our 14 day Sandbox quarantine in Phuket so didn’t need to do this here. We arrived at Samui airport mid day and took a taxi to Escape Beach Resort. It’s a lovely place with beach huts right by the ocean, and a very affordable nightly price. It is a little tucked out of the way so we would advise hiring a scooter through Raf’s for 100BHT per day, however Grab is available to get taxis to and from places if you don’t want to hire a scooter.

Fisherman's Village

Bo Phut, Koh Samui, Fisherman's Village

Content: Head out for dinner at Fishermans Village. There’s a lot of places to eat and drink here. We ate at Aroy Dee, a great family run business which is highly rated on TripAdvisor and serves great food. We had a massaman curry and Penang curry with rice, which were both excellent. We walked along Fisherman’s village to scope out where else may be good to come over the next few days and spotted Coco Tams which was very busy and looked an excellent place for a cocktail. Rather than go tonight we had wanted a good nights rest for a day of exploration so went home to get some sleep.

Most can be done via taxi/ scooter but the last 100m or so is on foot. We rode our scooter until a big red sign advised to park up, we paid the 40BHT to park and set off further up hill to Overlap Stone. Once we got there a woman who lived right next to the bridge to the stone requested 50BHT each to pass to take photos. We paid the money and luckily had the whole place to ourselves so were able to spend as long as we liked admiring the incredible views from so high up, and took lots of pictures. A short scooter ride, aided with google maps, led us to the car park. We paid 20BHT to park there and then took a short walk to the impressive waterfall. We set off for Na Mueng Waterfall #2 and quickly got to a 7/11 close by and stocked up on water as well as had a couple of cheese toasties. You will want to make sure you refuel before setting off for the next waterfall.

Head straight or take the very steep downward hill, and after continuing straight a few meters a woman called back to us to come down the steep section of road. We went down, parked up and she advised this was the road to waterfall #2, and it was a beautiful day to see it. She said to walk and follow the blue arrows which would take us there. We walked, and walked for quite a while. Stop where you need to, but believe me you are going to want to keep going to reach the summit here! We kept going up hill, and eventually the path finished and we walked out on the rocks to our right. This was when we were met with one of the best views we’ve ever seen in all our life. Danielle and I spent a while here simply sitting and drinking our water. Exploring a little, but being very careful while doing so. If you keep walking to the right you will see other waterfalls, but the view point is the main thing you’ll want to see. Luckily we were alone the whole time so we sat and stayed a while.

It’s a very calm ocean and under usual circumstances you’d struggle to find a spot of land to lay a towel down due to tourists filling the beach, however we had the pleasure of experiencing having the entire place to ourselves. Find a spot here either at one of the local bars/ restaurants with a sun bed or simply place a towel on the soft sand and relax, sun bathe and swim. We took a stroll down the beach to a nearby open restaurant where we sat and had some lunch. The selection was incredible and they have a stall serving up fresh sushi for 5-10BHT per piece, which is unbelievable value. We was a little suspicious at first about eating cheap roadside sushi, however the stall was full of people buying it so we gave it ago, and never looked back. Please bring appropriate footwear as the trek to Bottle Beach viewpoint is not for sandals and flip flops, and does involve some rather scary moments, but the view is unbelievable at the end. Bottle beach is difficult to get to if you’re not in a car. There are other options, the cheapest option is to get a boat from Chaloklum Beach, or a taxi service can take you to and from the beach. Unfortunately we discovered all of this too late, and wasn’t able to get to Bottle Beach, so the viewpoint had to suffice for us, but it is definitely somewhere you don’t want to miss.
