Nong Thale, Hang Nak Peak

Content: Get an early start and catch a longtail boat from Phi Phi to Krabi. Start the day early and hike Hang Nak Hill. Hang Nak Hill is a pretty intense hike, but the summit is worth all the sweat and exhaustion. The whole trail is 7.2 km with a 2,000 ft elevation gain. It took us about two hours to climb up and a little over an hour down. Be prepared to sweat, but going early in the morning will help beat the heat a bit, making a more comfortable trek. Be sure to bring lots of water (1.5 liters per person worked out well for us) and wear comfortable shoes, either sneakers or hiking boots. The park stops letting people start the hike at 3 or 4 pm, because it is a lengthy trail and can be dangerous in the dark, so keep that in mind! Also check the weather before you go because you would hate to put in all the work to climb up just to have a cloudy haze or even rain 😣. Other than that, be ready for a hard workout, but you will feel so accomplished when you reach the top 🙌🏼

Happy Elephant Home

Content: Today we’re gonna hang out with some elephants! Book a spot online at Happy Elephant Home to spend a day pampering these beauties who are survivors of the horrific tourism industry. Some of the elephants we met were previously working in circuses and shows, where they were abused into learning tricks like headstands 😞. The others were used for logging & trekking, practices that are very damaging to an elephants spine as they are not meant to carry excess weight on their backs. Now, these guys have plenty of space to roam around, happily eat their sugar cane and watermelon (for 18 hours a day 😳), get bathed in mud, and swim around in the river. We did a lot of research before choosing an elephant sanctuary because many of the ones in Thailand unfortunately do more harm than good. We are thrilled with the experience we had at Happy Elephant Home and recommend it to anyone looking for an amazing & ethical sanctuary. It was incredible to be so close & interactive with them, they are truly the sweetest things. Book your spot in advance! Spots fill fast.

This soup is native to Chiang Mai, and it’s a spicy coconut curry dish with chicken and noodles topped with bean sprouts, red onion, cilantro, lime and crunchy noodles. This place gets really busy really fast so if you don’t want to wait in line, be sure to get there early!

You let go of any negativity from the previous year and welcome all the positive energy and love. Highly recommend!!

Content: Next it’s time to check out the most intricate temple we’ve ever seen - the White Temple. During our time in Thailand we saw so many temples, but Wat Rong Khun (known as the White Temple) was so unique with its ornate architecture and the pure white color; we’ve truly never seen anything like it. The White Temple is filled with art that is inspired by Buddhist beliefs & focuses on problems of modern society. As you can see in the video, the sculptures of the reaching hands symbolize desire and human suffering. It is thought that when you walk across that bridge passing the hands, you are crossing over from the cycle of death and rebirthing into a state that is free of suffering. It symbolizes the path to happiness by overcoming temptations and greed. After you cross the bridge, you arrive at the “Gates of Heaven” where you meet two large creatures, Death and Rahu, who decide your fate. You then approach the main building of the temple, the ubosot. The interior of the ubosot is filled with beautiful, colorful murals that represent lessons such as good vs. evil, for example. The White Temple is so rich in history, culture & beauty. Walking through the temple is such a spiritual experience that really makes you think. The Golden Hindu temple was located at the back entrance of the White Temple. We highly recommend checking out Wat Rong Khun - definitely a must-see destination in Chiang Rai!
