Tashkent International Airport Domestic Terminal

Tashkent, Tashkent International Airport Domestic Terminal

Content: Central Asia—Uzbekistan!! Finally arrived, and we are so excited to explore country #32 for us. Tashkent airport is clean and tourist friendly, however they are a bit strict on a couple items you bring in that you would need to declare. We received permission from the military with the help of the ministry of tourism to bring our small-ish drone, but security still had us fill out a form to stamp and declare. They are very strict with drones, so do your homework if you want to bring. Rest of our camera equipment was good to go. Medicine—read the list of allowable over the counter medicines to bring! Declare what the Uzbekistan website recommends or consider just not bringing them. Only needed 72 hour negative covid test, pre-approved EVisa we filled out online, and our passports. Very easy picking up luggage and getting out otherwise.

Garlic croutons, zucchini pancakes, beer boiled prawns, mushroom potato hash, chicken fettuccine Alfredo, and lots of wine—we only spent about $35 USD total! Really nice full hot and cold breakfast to wake up to.

Content: Old Khiva is a UNESCO protected charming city—you can probably walk around and see everything in two hours! Recommend giving yourself time early in the morning to take pictures where the lighting is perfect and vendors are not out yet. When in Khiva, you should purchase wool socks as souvenirs. Everyone is extremely friendly and curious to see visitors, especially with the pandemic and such few tourists these days. We saw spent the day seeing Ichan-Kala Fortress (took drone up there at sunset discretely), Mukhammad Amin Khan Madrasah, Mukhammad Rahimkhan Madrasah, Kalta Minor, Kunya-Ark, Juma Mosque, Toshkhovli Palace, Pakhlavan Makhmud Mausoleum, Minaret of Islom Khodja. Uzbekistan is strict with condition of cash, so make sure before your trip you go through every dollar and make sure there is not a single fine tear or rip, and that bills are not older than 1996. Money exchange inside old Khiva is possible, and because of inflation, you can easily be a millionaire!

Content: We hired a driver for about $60 to drive 5-6 hours from Khiva to Bukhara. You can take a train, but the option we had was an older train with no A/C and it was the middle of the summer. Comfortable car to ourselves was a better option. We arrived at a magical hotel with two fresh courtyards in the centers of the rooms and a full hot and cold breakfast. We loved the character and details and felt swept away in a far off place. Again, walking distance to all the best spots in Bukhara. Book below to experience this place!

Content: Bukhara is a little larger than Khiva, so we recommend a good half or full day to see all the sites on foot.we visited the Lyabi Hauz Ensemble, Magoki-Attori Mosque, Chor-Minor Madrasah, trade domes, Kalyan Minaret, Kalyan Mosque and Miri-Arab Madrasah, Ulugbek and Abdulazizkhan madrasahs, Ark Fortress, Bolo-Khauz Mosque, Ismail Samani and Chashma-Ayub mausoleums. We recommend hiring a city guide to give more background on the centuries of history, and then wake up early the next morning to snap pictures in all the places when it’s not too hot, great lighting, and no people.

Content: AMAZING food! Everything is great and affordable on the menu, but we especially loved the dumplings, eggplant salad, and lamb kebabs. We tried the other meat kebabs and usually aren’t huge lamb fans, but this lamb was a huge surprise to our taste buds and so tender. Air conditioned and nice big tables, a great way to end another fantastic day. By the way, each restaurant in Uzbekistan already charges 10-15% gratuity and tipping is not expected. You can tip if you’d like, but it’s not common.

You MUST visit Gur Emir and Registan both during the day and at night—the lights at night are beautiful and have a whole different atmosphere.

Dress and act respectfully as this place is very important in Islam. The tile was the most stunning we’ve ever seen—it was the perfect last stop to end our visit to Samarkand. Also for a good lunch or dinner, stop at Afrodita to eat some yummy Lagman noodles.

Content: Such a safe and clean capitol city—we weren’t quite expecting such large well paved highways and tall white condos and high rises with lush trees on the sides. Tons to do here, but we’re just spending a day to see the top highlights! We visited the Old City of Tashkent with Khast-Imom Complex, where the world famous Quran of Caliph Uthman - Ottoman has been preserved. In Khast-Imom, we visited the Madrasah of Barak-Khan, Tilla Sheikh Mosque, Mausoleum of the Saint Abu Bakr Kaffal Shashi, and the Islamic Institute of Imam al- Bukhari. Being foodies, we also explored the Chor-Su Bazaar. Don’t be alarmed if you see things like horse meat sausage—it’s a delicacy here and quite normal to see on menus.
