Day 1 - 16 Aug 2020
Content: This is one of the most famous hotels in Zagreb, Esplanade Hotel. It was built in 1925 for reputed passengers traveling on the Orient Express from Paris to Istanbul. It's located directly across Central Station in the city center.
Content: When you think about Croatia, Zagreb is probably not the first place that pops into your mind. But Zagreb has a lot to offer. So, maybe you should put it on your list too. We started our tour at Zagreb Cathedral. It’s definitely one of the most dominated buildings in the Zagreb skyline. Entrance to the Cathedral is free.
Content: The next stop is “belly of Zagreb”, Dolac Markt. It’s the central open-air market, located just above the main square. A great place to experience local life and to taste some fresh seasonal products from Zagreb's surroundings.
Content: Best way to feel the real local life is to take a cup of coffee at one of the many coffee shops on Tkalčićeva street. This is a beloved spot in Zagreb for drinking coffee and meeting with friends. People spend hours here, just drinking coffee and talking about life. My favorite thing was observing people. If you are interested in exploring Zagreb’s nightlife, this is also a perfect place to start your night. You can choose from many pubs and bars, and if that’s not enough, from here you can reach almost every club in Zagreb in less than half an hour.
Content: We continued our walk around the Upper Town and take the next stop at St. Mark’s Church. It’s one of the oldest buildings in Zagreb. Definitely one of the most famous symbols of the city that attracts attention with its multi-colored tile roof. Tiles on the roof represent the coat of arms of Zagreb and the Triune Kingdom of Croatia, Dalmatia, and Slavonia.
Content: I love to go to quirky museums, so I had to visit the Museum of Broken Relationships. It’s in human nature that we are always interested in other people’s lives. Some of us are noisier than others, but let’s agree, we all want to hear some good old break-up stories. Some of the stories are quite funny, some of them are really sad. What makes this place even more unique is that you can find a lot more than painful and embarrassing breakups, but also stories about friendships and family relationships.
Content: One of the best views in town is the one at Lotrščak tower. In the Middle Ages, bells on this Tower were warning citizens to return to the fort because the gate would soon be closed and locked. Today, there is a cannon there, which symbolically honors some past times by blasting every day at noon.
Content: Another wonderful view over Zagreb is the one at Strossmayer Promenade.
Content: Before grabbing something to eat, we had to go for a ride on the shortest funicular in the world. The track is only 66 meters long.
Content: We ended our tour with dinner. Delicious food and reasonable prices.
Day 2 - 17 Aug 2020
Content: The second day was reserved for exploring Lower Town and shopping. We started our day at Jelačić Square, and from here we strolled down Ilica Street. This is the longest street in Zagreb and it’s packed with stores and coffee shops.
Content: After doing some shopping, we decided to visit another quirky museum, the Museum of Illusions. No matter how old you are, what your interests are, the Museum of Illusions will make you laugh, think, and wonder. I absolutely loved this place! There is a lot of interesting exhibits you can try out. Even though I almost lost my mind trying to solve some of the puzzles, I really had a great time and would do it again anytime.
Content: Then we explored some beautiful parks in the city center. My advice is to spend some time in Zrinjevac Park (something is almost always going on there) and King Tomislav Square and the Art Pavilion.
Content: We returned to Jelačić Square to visit Zagreb 360 ° or Zagreb Eye. It’s an observation deck with a beautiful view over Zagreb. There is also a bar where you can relax your tired feet after walking around the city.
Day 3 - 18 Aug 2020
Content: The third day was reserved for one of the most beautiful places in Croatia, Plitvice Lakes National Park. It's the oldest and largest national park in Croatia Here is some information about this place: - it covers an area of just under 300 km² - since 1979 on the UNESCO World Heritage List - just under 1% of the total park area is covered by lakes - cascading from one into the next, there are 16 named and several unnamed lakes - the lakes end in the impressive waterfalls called Sastavci - Korana river spring from under the base of Sastavci waterfalls - there are 7 different tours to tour the lakes and 4 hiking trails - length of the tours stretch from 3500 m to 18300 m (2-3 hours to 6-8 hours) - the park is open for visitors all year round - dogs are permitted in the park only on a leash - you can go rowing on the largest lake Kozjak (50 kn/hour, max. 4 persons per boat) - cycling is not permitted - admission fee varies depending on the season from 80 kn to 300 kn, as well as the opening hours - ticket price includes transport with the electric boat and panorama train Here you can easily spend the whole day strolling around admiring nature.
Day 4 - 19 Aug 2020
Content: After 3 days of exploring, it’s finally time to go to the Croatian beautiful coast. The first beach that we visited was Čigrađa beach. Because it was pretty crowded, we decided to walk a little further, past the sanded beach, and we found a little corner just for us, where we spend most of our day.
Content: Later we decided to visit another beach, Colentum beach. Colentum Beach is a beautiful beach in Murter where you can swim around the ancient remains of a Roman Villa. As I visited this beach, it was under construction, so I couldn't swim there. But on the other end of the beach, you will find this cute swing.
Day 4 - 19 Aug 2020
Content: We ended our day with dinner in Kapela. This place serves traditional Croatian food, and it’s a heaven for meat lovers.
Day 5 - 20 Aug 2020
Content: There is no better way to start your day, than with a cup of coffee near the pool.
Day 5 - 20 Aug 2020
Content: Next stop: Površke Beach. Another gorgeous beach, with crystal clear water. This place can be really crowded, but if you don’t mind lying on the rocks, you can walk a little further from the sanded beach and you will find some corners just for you.
Day 5 - 20 Aug 2020
Content: After the beach, we went to Konoba Leut. Now was time for some fish on the menu. It was delicious!
Day 6 - 21 Aug 2020
Content: Another beautiful day trip – Krka National Park I thought it doesn’t get any better than Plitvice Lake, but I was wrong. This place is packed with beautiful lakes and waterfalls. And the best part about it is that you can even go for a swim in one of the lakes (Skradinski Buk). This is the place where waterfalls end, and here you can just relax and enjoy the view. The entrance fee depends on the season but also on the things you want to visit and how you want to visit them (on foot, by bus or by boat). But if you are already there, I would advise you to buy a ticket for the whole park (this ticket includes a visit to the Skradinski Buk).
Day 6 - 21 Aug 2020
Content: After exploring the park, we visited Skradin. I loved exploring the narrow streets of this beautiful little town.
Day 7 - 22 Aug 2020
Content: On our last day, we decided to do nothing and spend it on the beach.
Day 7 - 22 Aug 2020
Content: In the evening we decided to go to Šibenik. We just walked around the old town and admired the buildings.
