Day 1 - 1 Jul 2019
Content: We took 14 hours Scandinavian Airlines flight from O'Hare International Airport to Vagar Airport, Faroe Islands. The airport is small, security check was quick and car rental service was also available.
Content: Rented a car and took a short 5 min drive to hotel located near the airport. Checked-in to the hotel, hotel is very basic, rooms were clean and service was okay, they had very less staff, no receptionist was available we had to check in on our own.
Content: Dropping off our luggage and heading towards Mulafossur Waterfall, we took a stop at a local cafe for our lunch. Ordered chicken burger and garlic bread which were good in taste and affordable at the same time, can also try a lamb burger.
Content: After having our lunch headed towards our first destinantion which was Mulafossur Waterfall, it offers a rich breathtaking view of waterfall which drops into the ocean. Driving through a one lane tunnel and a short hike is worth experiencing.
Content: With a 30 min drive from Mulafossur Waterfall, we reached Sandavags kirkja which is a small church with beautiful surroundings, steeped in history. Hanging model ship is unique, church has great glow with amazing lighting at night.
Day 2 - 2 Jul 2019
Content: After breakfast, started our day with a 1 hour boat ride to Mykines island. Mykines is known for Hiking and Sightseeing. We enjoyed passing by rocky archways, watched Puffins, Gannets and many other birds.There are only 2 boats to reach this island and half day is required.
Content: Took a ferry ride for about an hour and explored Tindholmur which is a inhabited inset. Spectacular view, would love to tent here and spend some days, one of the beautiful island. Ferry ride can be prone to sea sickness.
Content: With a 1 hour drive reached Gasadalur which is a village known for its waterfall. Nice viewpoint accessible from the road, waterfall is impressive. Weather was pleasant which enhanced its beauty.
Content: Returned back to our hotel and ordered salmon for our dinner which was amazing, menu was short with not much choice to order. Airport was so close that flight landing on runway was visible from the restaurant glass.
Day 3 - 3 Jul 2019
Content: After breakfast, took a 1 hour drive to Streymoy, which is the largest and most populated island of Faroe Islands. Passing by iridescent green and a horseshoe bay of black shores and turquoise water. It also offers hike to Saksun as we were with family we were not able to go for it.
Content: Taking a 1 hour ride, we reached Saksun which is a wonderful remote hillside village and most worthwhile destination known for its tranquil atmosphere. The road was buttery smooth village offered many picturesque spots. A place with not much crowd and perfect for a family.
Content: Heading further with a 30 min drive reached Tjornuvik, known for for its special hymn singing. Visited a local sandy beach and enjoyed the afternoon, need to keep a watch on the hide sometimes they can be wild.
Content: Reached our last destianntion for day with a 1 hour drive. Where we checked-in to a hotel in Gjogv village which is a small settlement. The location was beautiful, service was average, staff was accommodating and friendly.
Content: Had dinner at the hotel restaurant itself food was good with some amazing lighting views of the village, service was slow and price was a bit costly. Owner used to visit personally to each and every customer for their feedback which was a good gesture.
Day 4 - 4 Jul 2019
Content: After a quick coffee sip, we headed towards Klaksvik with a 1 hour drive from Gjogv. Later from Klaksvik we boarded a short ferry and reached Syoradalur village located on the long thin island named Kalsoy. The village is now abandoned, only way to rich Kalsoy is by ferry.
Content: Taking a 20 min drive passing through plenty of spooky tunnels with some epic views reached Trollanes, It is known for meat speciality, Garnatalg. The village name means Troll peninsula. It offers photogenic green mountains and cliff mountain views.
Content: We hiked for 45 min towards Kallur Light house from Trollanes. It is a candy striped light house perched on a rocky outcrop in the shadow of an impossibly tall and steep splinter of land surging up from the sea. Here the winds are very wild with lot of mist, need to wear warm clothes.
Content: Returned back from lighthouse, took a stop at one of the well known tourist attraction in Mikladalur known for a Seal women or a little mermaid. Beautiful place with a short history must visit to feel the beauty of nature.
Day 4 - 4 Jul 2019
Content: After a long hectic day returned back and had dinner with drinks. The food was amazing and service was average.
Day 5 - 5 Jul 2019
Content: After breakfast, we took a 1 hour drive through Haraldssund Tunnel to Kunoy, had an amazing experience driving through these 5 different tunnels. They do have pull offs and everyone was very good about pulling over to make room for the other cars. This was draining and exciting at the same time.
Content: Bordoy is a island, which means headland island. The views were spectacular with many other small islands all around, there was nothing much to explore.
Content: Returned back from Bordoy and checked-in to a accommodation, which was 10 min away. Such a wonderful place felt like home from the time we got in there, hospitality was great and staff was kind. The room were very comfortable.
Content: Had dinner at a near by restaurant, Nice place with warm and welcoming atmosphere, Menu was offering too much. Excellent food, wide choice of bottled craft beer and loved the ambiance.
Day 6 - 6 Jul 2019
Content: In the morning after a quick bite we left towards Fjallavatn, which was 2 hours drive from our hotel. Fjallavatn is known for hidden beach and the inky expanse of windswept water. Hiked Fjallavatn which took around 5 hours, need skills to hike lake through the coast. Not recommended for old age people.
Content: After a hectic hike, we returned back and checked-in to the hotel. Hotel was not spacious, rooms were clean and service was average. As we had to leave for our flight back to our home country this was a best nearby accommodation to spend a night.
Content: Ordered a room service, as after a long hike we were left with no energy, the food was good, portion was decent and hospitality was great.
Day 7 - 7 Jul 2019
Content: With a quick bite headed towards Vagar Airport from where we boarded a 15 hour Atlantic Airlines flight to O'Hare International Airport, Chicago. The flight was smooth and crew was polite and helpful.
