Content: The following, we visited the town of Gordes, waking around and admiring the surrounding. It’s one of most beautiful villages in France, situated on the Monts of Vaucluse. Its houses and buildings of white stone root themselves into the sharp cliff of the mountain. Its lovely narrow streets do not leave visitors indifferent to its charm.

Content: We started the day with visiting one of the famous lavender towns in Provence, Valensole. It’s surrounded with the iconic and Instafamous lavender fields. We grabbed the local pastry and tasted lavender merengue while walking around the town. Its historic center contains beautiful old houses in the colors of Provence, nicely restored and some with corbel arches, ogival doors, wrought-iron balconies and pretty shutters. There are chapels and fountains, in particular the very decorative fountain on the Place Thiers.

Content: We decide to drive around the zone to find some lavender fields yet in blossom. At time we visited Provence, as we expected, the most of the beautiful fields in the zone of Valensole were already cut, therefore we decide move more to the mountains, where blooming is a little bit later. Lucky we found on the way some fields in full blossom. *The best time to visit lavender fields is the beginning- mid of July but it may vary every year depending on the weather. Tip: To get the most intense color of the lavender on your pictures, the best time to take the photos is just after sunrise or while before sunset (so called golden hour). *Beside the famous lavender fields, the zone is known for plenty of lovely little towns to visit around.

Content: Today we decided to visit pink salt lakes of Aigues Mortes. The shades and hues of pink of the salt flakes will depend on the time of the day you visit. This is because of how and at what angle the sunlight reflects on the water - on “high noon” there could be so much reflection so the pink hue will be less apparent than if you visit in the late afternoon, when the sun has weaken. Tip: try to avoid the sunniest part of the day to witness the different shades of pink. This place is owned by the Salins Group but they turned it into tourist attraction as well. You can visit the salty pans either on a guided tour, by a train, bicycle, on food ( as we did) - by paying an entrance fee to explore the salt lakes on your own. Entrance fee is around 8€ person.

Content: Our last stop before leaving Provence was to visit Colorado Provençal. It’s has earned the name of “Colorado” for its incredible colors and as it reminds of The American canyon, also because Colorado means “red” in Provencal. It’s the painteresque mix of yellows, reds, oranges and browns. The landscape (cliffs, cirques, fairy chimneys and hills) is the result of the exploitation of ocher started in the 18th century in the region. Gradually abandoned, the quarries form today a grandiose site, appreciated for walks and touristic hike. Entrance fee is 5€ (it include: parking, a map of the tracks and explanation of the site) or 2€ (if you arrive on foot or by bicycle).
