Day 1 - 7 Sep 2021

Athens International Airport

Athens, Athens International Airport

Content: Arrived at the Athens International Airport around 9 am! I’ve been to Greece several times before, so my boyfriend picked me up from the airport and drove me to the air bnb! Otherwise, you can certainly take a Beat or Taxi to your hotel and/or air bnb!

Location: Voudia

Day 1 - 7 Sep 2021

Sarakiniko Beach

Content: I’ll skip right over to our vacation on the Greek islands! We ended up taking a Ferry to get to Milos. It’s part of the Cycladic islands, so it’s fairly easy to drive down to the southern most point of Greece (Cape Sunion) and take a ferry from there. Milos was a beautiful place - there were several beaches that we ended up visiting! The most notable was Sarakiniko Beach! The Moon-like surface of the beach made it seem like it was right out of a sci-Fi movie! I would get there early, however, because it starts to get very packed with tourists after 9 am. Beware, it can also get VERY windy!

Location: Mandrakia

Content: We stopped by Medusa Restaurant on our way back from Sarakiniko! The restaurant is located in Mandrakia. It’s a beautiful little town on the edge of a cliff! They sun-dry their octopus by the edge of the cliff and grill them with sea salt (as well as vinegar sometimes). It’s absolutely delicious!

Location: Apollonia

Day 2 - 8 Sep 2021

Content: The next day, we ended up going to a couple of different beaches! The first was Pollonia (which is in Apollonia). It was a five minute walk from our hotel, and it was typically very empty regardless of there being quite a few tourists in the area. The beach was near a strip of restaurants and shops as well - easy to grab a quick bite after swimming! the second beach was Firopotamos Beach! It was a beautiful beach - the water was so blue, and no one else really swam at first because of the wind (so we had the whole beach to ourselves for a while). But when people realized the water was pretty warm, we weren’t alone for long 😉

Content: We stayed at the beach for a while and then grabbed lunch shortly afterwards! This island is known for its seafood - and we absolutely loved it! The grilled octopus, horte (greens/veggies), calamari, bread + olive oil, and delicious Greek salad were soooo yummy!

Content: We walked around the area for a bit and checked out some of the classic, white buildings near the beach. The architecture was very Cycladic, similar to the White House’s seen in Santorini!

Kanala Kythnou

Content: The next day, we took a ferry to Kythnos! Kythnos is a special island because my boyfriend spent his summers as a child here! He thoroughly enjoyed growing up here and was eager to show me around for a second time! We stopped by the church that overlooked the edge of the cliff - it was stunning!

Content: We walked over to Kanala Beach for a bit where his godparents treated us to a feast! They had caught some fish and an octopus while spear fishing - the food was delicious! Even the Greek salad was to die for! They had home-grown capers in the salad, and it was the best finishing touch!

Content: For dinner , we drove over to Chora! It was a small town in the middle of the island - most people come here for dinner and/or shopping. They have everything from pharmacies, grocery stores, and coffee shops to trinket stores and lotion shops! I loved seeing the clay pots that were handmade (created right on the island!) as the island itself seems a bit drier and vast. It gives it the feel of volcanic rock!

Day 4 - 10 Sep 2021

Kanala Bay Beach

Content: The next day, we went swimming at Kanala Beach again! We also explored the town by walking around and grabbing brunch at the best brunch place in Kanala! It was a beautiful day! Not too hot, not too cold! The flowers were still blooming as well, so it was a really nice atmosphere to be in. There aren’t usually that many people on the island. (Relative to other islands such as Mykonos and Santorini) so you don’t get very overwhelmed by crowds, which is nice!

Kolona Beach

Content: Kolona beach is a unique beach because it’s surrounded by water on both sides! As you can see, it’s just a strip of “beach” that connects one land mass to another! It was really interesting to experience a unique beach such as this one. Thankfully, it was towards the end of the tourist season here as well, so we didn’t have to watch out for crowds at this beach either

Content: At night, we went for a walk past Kanala, and onto the highway that would eventually lead to Chora! It was a beautiful sight to see all of the houses near the coast lit up at night. It was also very peaceful watching the stars. As there aren’t many lampposts that drown out the sky above. I would highly recommend taking a midnight stroll on Kythnos - it’s absolutely worth it!

Content: Our last day was bittersweet! We really enjoyed spending the day with my boyfriend’s family, and also enjoyed the hours of relaxation on the beach! If you ever plan on visiting, Kythnos is a low key island (tourism is picking up, however) which is fun for relaxing Greek vibes ♥️
