Hotel Hermes

Agios Nikolaos, Hotel Hermes

Content: We arrived late in the evening into Agios Nikoloas and checked into Hotel Hermes. We decided to spend our first day relaxing by the pool, we took a quick break of sunning ourselves to head out for lunch!

Paradosiako

Agios Nikolaos, Paradosiako

Content: We walked around the beautiful lake near where we were staying (only a 5/10 minute walk) and browsed the restaurants. We always love finding a hidden gem and we thought this spot may be too busy to find one, so we carried on walking and ended up finding this beautiful restaurant. It overlooked the ocean, felt so private compared to the busy lake and the food was incredible. We of course ordered a greek salad and also had a carafe of wine! This place is a MUST when you visit Agios Nikolaos.

Taverna Patriko

Content: Since we’d already looked around the lake area we decided to head in the opposite direction for dinner and found the cutest restaurant; Patriko. The owner was super welcoming and sat us down, the menu had so many amazing options! As you can see… we definitely enjoyed ourselves!

Hotel Hermes

Agios Nikolaos, Hotel Hermes

Content: Since our hotel included breakfast (which was great by the way!) we ate here every morning to save on costs. There was a choice of fruits, continental and more traditional western breakfast like eggs, bacon etc. (PS this was the view from our balcony!) 🥰😍

Content: We researched different beaches in the area and came across this little gem. Votsalo Beach is a MUST visit while you’re here. Even though the beach is predominantly stones, there is a small concrete pier with steps to jump into the water (incredible blue crystal clear ocean here btw) and some steps over to a smaller, more private cove that has a sandy beach. So beautiful, we spent the whole day here and also ate at the one restaurant on the beach!

Content: We tried to get into Giome Meze, a restaurant recommended to us by friends but they had a barmixtzfah booked out so we ate elsewhere. We headed to Skala (basically opposite Giome Meze across the lake) and opted for seafood spaghetti and some wine! The perfect end to a lovely day.

Content: After breakfast at the hotel we booked a day trip to Elounda and Spinalonga! The boat left at 10am and took around an hour to get to Spinalonga. The views were truly beautiful here as it’s a small piece of land in the middle of the ocean. Spinalonga was known as a host of the leper community from 1903 to 1957. It was quite eerie walking through ruins but really interesting to find out more about this tiny island. You can climb right to the top and see incredible views like this!

Moon Spinners

Content: After an hour at Spinalonga, the boat sets sale for Elounda, a lovely fishing village 20 minutes from Agios Nikolaos. They had said we had 45 mins-1hour here and we headed straight for a restaurant we’d seen that had some great reviews. It took us 20+ mins to walk there from the pier and as soon as we sat down, we knew we were in good hands. The staff were so lovely and brought over the ‘catch of the day’ on a huge silver plate. We chose seabass accompanied with Mediterranean vegetables and off then went! We realised quickly that we were never going to make it back to the boat on time, but it wasn’t so bad as its only a 20 minute drive back to the hotel, so we checked the bus timetable to make sure we knew how to get back. Once the food came, we were speechless. We’ve since said that this was one of the best meals we’ve EVER had. The fish was so beautifully cooked and the sides were delicious. Everything about this place was a dream!

Hotel Hermes

Agios Nikolaos, Hotel Hermes

Content: Since we’ve been out all day, and had quite the trip getting back from Elounda (the bus was every 4 hours so we had to wait a while) we weren’t hungry enough for dinner as we had a big late lunch, so we decided to get a bottle of wine from the shop, and sit on our balcony admiring the sea views!

Pelagos Dive Centre

Agios Nikolaos, Pelagos Dive Centre

Content: We fancied doing a small trip but nothing too full on so we contacted pelago’s dive centre and they told us you can book onto a dive boat for £5pp and the boat will take you out with the divers. While they dive, you get to have the boat to yourself, jump in the ocean, plus they give you snorkelling equipment and flippers so you can snorkel around the area! It was a great afternoon out for a few hours to enjoy the ocean as we pleased

Karnagio

Agios Nikolaos, Karnagio

Content: We had a late lunch once we’d got back from the boat and found this lovely spot by the lake. Of course we ordered a greek salad and this one didn’t disappoint either. They had such a great variety on their menu, so this would be an amazing place for dinner too!

Basilico Ristorante

Content: We found a cute little strip of restaurants along Paralia Agios Nikolaos beach and decided on Basilico. When we were walking past we saw the incredible Paella dishes coming out and we knew we HAD to eat here. We ordered a seafood paella and it was delicious!! Absolutely recommend this place as it had beautiful beach views too.

Content: We came here for the 2nd time during our trip because we thought it was the best greek salad we’d had here! Plus it was right next to the beach we were spending the day at so it was perfect.

Content: Once we’d enjoyed our day relaxing on the beach, we walked back towards the lake and got some ice cream. The lady who owns this cafe was so nice and attentive, plus the ice cream was amazing!! (Sorry we don’t have a picture!) :(

Content: We booked this in advance via a trip agent. The boat set off around 10am from Agios Nikolaos and we had to take 2 boats in total to get to Chrissi Island which is located in the south of Crete. We’d heard about this place having crystal clear waters and basically like a greek Maldives! It definitely didn’t disappoint 😍 This was the perfect way to spend our last full day in Crete! There were little stalls you could buy snacks and drinks from, but for the most part the island was pretty deserted, which made the beach and ocean even more inviting!

It was so stunning to look out at everything from up here. We ordered wine, starters and mains and everything was perfect ! The best end to our trip to Crete!
