Day 1 - 25 Sep 2021
Content: We landed at around 12 PM.Skiathos airport is small and easy to navigate. There was a check point for vaccine certificate/ pcr tests and online form from Govt. website. We took a cab from to our hotel. Taxis are cheap and definitely the easiest way to reach your hotel from the airport. We stayed in the Megali Ammos area and would recommend booking hotels in this area as it is close to the old town, beaches and close to public transport
Day 1 - 25 Sep 2021
Content: We checked in to our small and beautiful family run hotel. We booked a room where we paid 15 euros extra per night to get the room on the first floor facing the pool. We requested sea view as well and voila!we got both - pool and sea view. Simple but good breakfast was included and served in the room. The hotel has one negative point, a 5 mins steep walk. But that gives this amazing view from the rooms and balconies, totally worth the steep walk.
Day 1 - 25 Sep 2021
Content: After checking in, we freshen up and headed to Skiathos town to get some food. There are two ways to reach the old town - the bus stop was just at the main road, 5 mins walk from the hotel. The other way is to walk to the old town around 25 mins. The walk to the Skiathos town was really beautiful and we never used the bus to go to there.
Content: We ate at Souvlaki Strike. I had chicken Gyros and my husband had a pork souvlaki. Both were very tasty, pretty filling and super cheap. Definitely try souvlaki there at least once. They accept cards which is really a plus point.
Content: Then we walked along the beautiful blue and white small narrow streets of the old town and reached the old port. The old port was used in the Mamma Mia movie – where the 3 fathers landed and took a boat to Kalokairi, which is in reality, the neighboring island Skopelos.
Content: We went to the Bourtzi which is a fortress built there in the 13th century to protect the town, however today only a few ruins survive. The sunset from the Bourtzi is really amazing.
Content: We had dinner at Levio. The ambiance was good and it was by the sea. The Swordfish was good and also good portion (both food and wine)
Day 2 - 26 Sep 2021
Content: We had breakfast at our hotel and headed towards the closest beach, Vassilias beach, a 10 mins walk.
Day 2 - 26 Sep 2021
Content: While on the way, we noticed a sign to reach a particular part of the beach, right opposite to the bus stop 7 and we followed that path. Reached a small beach where there was basically one person. We swam and sunbathed there for some time, and then started walking to the old town for lunch.
Day 2 - 26 Sep 2021
Content: We had a grill platter for 2 at Black sheep in Skiathos center, and everything was super delicious and big portions. We couldn’t finish it though.
Content: After lunch, we walked along the old town and had ice cream at Yum me. Loved how colorful and vibrant this place was.
Content: We went to the old port to buy tickets for boat trips to Skopelos. We bought ticket from poseidondailycruises - the only tour company at that time which went all the way to the Mamma Mia chapel. All others stop at another place -a long walk or a cab ride away. After booking we headed towards the opposite direction of Bourtzi along the old port.
Day 2 - 26 Sep 2021
Content: We walked through some beautiful streets up to the Church of birth of Mary. Steep walk up the steps but very worth the climb for the views of the church and the town below. It was closed then and we went there once more during our trip, and the view was worth going twice.
Day 2 - 26 Sep 2021
Content: On our way down, we came across some pretty spots and beautiful houses.
Content: Once we were back to the old port, we walked around. We enjoyed a perfect and peaceful sunset.
Content: Then we had dinner at one of the restaurants in the old town (cannot recall the name). After dinner we kept exploring the old town in the evening. Skiathos looked equally beautiful in the evening. Walking through the colorful streets of Sikathis in the evening is highly recommended.
Day 3 - 27 Sep 2021
Content: We started our Mamma Mia tour - a boat trip to Skopelos Island. And it is advisable to reach at least 15 to 20 minutes prior to departure to get the sun chairs on the top floor of the boat. We were a little late, so couldn’t manage to get the sun chairs 😔 The times in this trip are not accurate.
Day 3 - 27 Sep 2021
Content: The boat took us to The Mamma Mia chapel. Once we got off the boat, we could see the chapel. A flight of stairs up to the chapel. The chapel is small but pretty and the view from the chapel is breathtaking. Highly recommended.
Day 3 - 27 Sep 2021
Content: Then we went down to the beach. We spent a short while sunbathing, before getting on to the boat and heading towards Skopelos old town.
Content: Skopelos old town is very pretty- similar to skiathos yet different.
Content: As soon as we got off the boat, we went to one of the restaurants by the port. We ate Souvlaki there as we were very hungry and also wanted to eat something fast so that we could spend more time exploring the island.
Content: While we were approaching the island, we could see this beautiful white church(Panagitsa Tower). So, after lunch, we walked along the water and took the stairs up to the church.
Content: After that we went to the town to walk around and take a lot of photos in the beautiful narrow streets and houses. There are many other pretty churches in the island, another one that stood out was Church of St. Nicholas.
Day 3 - 27 Sep 2021
Content: The next stop was Kastani beach – Mamma Mia beach. We couldn’t resist jumping into the clear blue water of Kastani. There are sunbeds and parasols offered by the beach. We sunbathed and headed to our boat.
Day 3 - 27 Sep 2021
Content: The weather started getting bad by then, so we headed to the last stop. Lararia beach, However, it was not sunny anymore, windy but the crazy waves made it super fun. We stayed there for only 30 minutes and it would start raining soon, and headed back to Skiathos.
Day 4 - 28 Sep 2021
Content: After breakfast we headed to the bus stop and headed to one of the most beautiful beaches in Skiathos, Koukounaries beach. We got down at the last stop and walked down to the beach.
Day 4 - 28 Sep 2021
Content: The white sand, its fragrant pine tree forest and the crystal-clear blue water (you can see fishes there just stepping into the water) were absolutely gorgeous. The beach is also famous for black swans- so keep your eyes open to spot one. The beach is well-organized, it offers many water sports, sun chairs, umbrellas, beach bars. The beach has areas where trees provide natural shade - so, we didn’t need sunchairs or umbrellas. We took sandwiches with us, so we ate it at the beach- a small beach picnic.
Day 4 - 28 Sep 2021
Content: Then we headed to the nearby beach called the banana beach. We took the bus back to our hotel.
Day 4 - 28 Sep 2021
Content: In the evening we decided to try the food in our hotel. Our balcony was a perfect place for a peaceful sunset.
Day 5 - 29 Sep 2021
Content: After breakfast, we headed to Agios Nikolaos church. This was the place where Sophie wrote the wedding invitations to her three fathers.. It's a five-minute climb through winding white alleys with perfect picturesque spots and viewpoints.
Content: The view of the Skiathos Town's white houses with orange rooftops and the sea is mesmerizing, It was also very peaceful there so we took our time to sit on one of the benches and enjoy the view and the calmness from the church.
Content: We started walking down and took another way. The houses along the way were very pretty. We explore some other streets of the pretty city and I did bought some souvenirs.
Content: We headed to Levio(where we had our first dinner) on our way to the old town- the food was tasty, good portions and cheap as well. It had a sea view and also the ambiance was very pretty. The sunset from the restaurant and the sound of the waves made the dinner even more special.
Day 6 - 30 Sep 2021
Content: After breakfast, we headed to the old port. We took the boat to Lararia beach. On our Tuesday trip, it was windy and cloudy, so we could barely enjoy this beach. Also, if you visit Skiathos after August, it is better to go to the beach in the morning else the beach does not get sun because of the rocks around.
Day 6 - 30 Sep 2021
Content: Lararia beach is beautiful and there are boats that go inside the water cave. However, it was a windy that day as well, hence no boats were going there. We were there for an hour and half and then headed back to the old port of Skiathos.
Day 6 - 30 Sep 2021
Content: We started strolling around the town . We came across this Noname Souvlaki on one of the streets inside. Had a light lunch and then headed to bus stop 1.
Content: There is a small van which takes people up the steep road to the Evangelistria Monastery. The van runs every hour back and forth. Make sure to have cash with you. As I remember it costed 5€ one way.
Day 6 - 30 Sep 2021
Content: It was a short yet scenic way to the Monastery. There is no entrance ticket and we went inside. Evangelistria Monastery is beautiful. There is also a small garden and the view from the Monastery is stunning - absolutely worth visiting. The way to the monastery and back is also very beautiful. We could see one end of the island from there.
Day 6 - 30 Sep 2021
Content: Once we were back to the town, we walked up towards the windmill restaurant. There was one spot on the way(1st pic) which offered beautiful view of the port and Skopelos island. The restaurant opens only in the evening and needs advance booking. We couldn’t get a seat there, hence we took a few pics.
Content: We had dinner at Portobello Restaurant. The ambiance was amazing and the food was also very delicious.
Content: We had a fika at Mamma Mia and then looked for our favorite cats to say goodbye.
Content: This part is specially for animal/cat lovers- Thanks to Skiathos Cats welfare association, all stray cats are taken care of- vaccinated and neutered. Also, there are designated areas where anyone can donate cat food(even travelers). One can also adopt a cat but that is a lengthy process. You can learn more about it from the YouTube documentary on Skiathos cats. We actually fell in love with quite a few of them and missed them when we were back home.
Day 6 - 30 Sep 2021
Content: We sat at our balcony to enjoy the last evening in this beautiful island. This is something I did every evening and morning as this was so peaceful.
Day 7 - 1 Oct 2021
Content: This was our last day and we woke up a little early to enjoy the sunrise from our balcony. Sunrise time was around 7:45, so it wasn’t that early though 😉 We went to the pool as we hardly used it during our stay. Then we had breakfast and then packed our bags and left it at the hotel’s reception and checked out.
Day 7 - 1 Oct 2021
Content: Then we walked to the Megali Amos beach- small but pretty.
Content: Took a last walk in the beautiful town and then had lunch at taverna Cuba. Food was ok but ambiance was good. After that we went to our hotel to get our luggage. Hotel booked a cab for us to the airport and we headed back to cold Sweden from warm sunny Skiathos.
