Day 1 - 6 Sep 2019
Content: Boarded the Turkish airways flight to Athens via Istanbul from home airport ORD. Arrived Athens on a rather too busy day at the airport. The immigration took almost 2 hours & we could walk out of airport at 04 PM. Because we were running late for out evening plans, we took a taxi to the Athens hotel for EUR 60.
Content: Always preferred boutique hotels over the commercial ones & Pallas Athena lived beyond expectations in terms of architecture & a touch of ethnicity in every aspect. A bit slow service & would not recommend for anyone who prefer the food spread as per international standards.
Content: After a quick shower, we lace up to explore Athens on foot. The location of the hotel is amidst the bustling markets & restaurants. Indulged some really savory dishes served at various small restaurants & food stalls. The most unique was the 'Green Cola' a soft drink which was delicious & unlike anything we ever had in many countries we traveled.
Content: Great food. Friendly service, nice atmosphere and good vegetarian options. Plan ahead for this restaurant; as it gets crowded during evening.
Day 2 - 7 Sep 2019
Content: Acropolis was the main attraction in Greece for the fact that we are history buffs. Walked to Acropolis which was 1.5 kms from hotel, had pre booked the skip the like tickets to Acropolis & Museum to save time on tour. Reached the venue, exchanged the voucher & in no time we were inside. Highly recommend pre booking tickets since on a summer day you may spend hours at the ticket window. The monument is majestic as expected & would recommend anyone coming to Greece to visit this since this is the main essence.
Content: We tried to explore the city with a twist & a convenience of a segway. It was out first time on a Segway tour & we vow to include such tours anywhere we travel in future. Not only its easy on your feet but the local guide can always be more informative at the right time when it would be hard to find answers from Google. We glided through the Hadrian's Arch, Parliament House & National Gardens of Athens. The route covers a brief of most important highlights Athens has to offer.
Day 3 - 8 Sep 2019
Content: The Pieraus Harbour was 10 kms from the hotel. The hotel front desk for kind enough to book a cab to the harbour the previous night. We left the hotel at 6 AM & the hotel offered a packed breakfast which we had it on board. Forever grateful for the gesture. The world champion jet took us from Athens to Santorini in 4.35 hours which was the fastest. The ferry ride was comfortable & thats about it. Always would suggest to pre-book the ferry tickets.
Day 3 - 8 Sep 2019
Content: Oia & Fira are the locations where the bustle is. Villa Irini is 1.5 kms from Fira, since the hotels in heart of Fira were 3 times more expensive with similar services. We booked the Junior Suite with Outdoor Jacuzzi & caldera view. If this would be the last trip of our life, we have no regrets. It was that magnificent when it comes to the room quality & the view. Since my wife was pure vegetarian, she struggled with the food, but the staff did all they could to accommodate any requests. Oh, this is an Adults only resort. No kids allowed.
Day 4 - 9 Sep 2019
Content: After a lousy breakfast, the hotel staff helped us rent a ATV quad bike for a day. Santorini is a small island & ATV bike was the best way to explore and experience the little lanes & breathtaking limestone architecture the town had to offer. Stopped at multiple little cafe's for food & beverages & none of them disappointed. The best way to explore Santorini is your way.
Day 5 - 10 Sep 2019
Content: Checked out of Santorini & took a cab to Thira port where we boarded the Champion Jet 2 ferry to Mykonos. We reached Mykonos in 2 hours of departure. Upon arrival took a cab to Hotel Horizon Mykonos which was about 7 kms. The plan was to unwind & relax in Mykonos so selected Horizon for value for money & location & views. Despite of the fact that the hotel & the rooms were stunningly beautiful the service was a big let down. But for the price we paid, we shouldn't complain.
Day 6 - 11 Sep 2019
Content: Decided to step out for a couple of hours to explore the Mykonos town. Mykonos windmills & little Venice is something we would highly recommend visiting for viewing pleasure & clicking pictures. On the other hand, a lot of beach cafes & restaurants to make life interesting. Mykonos to Greece is what Ibiza is to Spain.
Day 7 - 12 Sep 2019
Content: Boarded the 45 minutes flight to Athens at 9.30 AM. Arrived ATH & stuffed the luggage in the cloak room. Walked out & hired a car for a day trip to Delphi. The drive was beautiful & so were the quaint little Greek villages en-route. We enjoyed the drive more than the destination. Would recommend pushing up till Meteora which we couldn't since we had a flight to board at 11 PM from Athens.
Day 7 - 12 Sep 2019
Content: Arrived airport after a beautiful drive to Delphi, dropped the self drive car at the Europcar office & checked in for the flight back to the motherland.
