Budapeste

Content: Welcome to my solo getaway to Budapest! I arrived in the city at 5 pm, which was quite late for winter, as the sun was already down. When I’m solo travelling I like to drive a bit early to see my surroundings. Anyway, I went to the city centre by bus: all you have to do is buy a ticket at the airport, for 900HUF (2,5€), and when you get out you’ll immediately see the sign for the 200E bus. The people here were super nice!

Day 1 - 4 Mar 2022

Agape Aparthotel

Budapest, Agape Aparthotel

Content: I was starving so went straight to the hotel to check in. I usually stay in hostels because it’s great to meet new people, but with covid restrictions, I just reserved an aparthotel for this trip. However, I got a bit disappointed with the room as it had a few problems like a leaking tap. But once it was located in the old Jewish neighbourhood, it was amazing to explore the entire city on foot. Highly recommend!

Restaurante Fuego

Budapest, Restaurante Fuego

Content: Since it was already quite late and I didn’t do any reservations for dinner, I googled a place and just went for it. Turns out I found the best restaurant to eat chicken and believe me - it was amazing! The soup was out of this world and the chicken was delicious. To this day I still dream about it. 🤤🤤🤤 and the best part: it was really cheap! 6€ with beverage

Budapest, Praça dos Heróis

Content: On the second day of my trip, I woke up early and decided to go up heading to Heroe’s square. Grabbed a croissant at a random pastry along the way and kept going! I did it by foot, which was almost 40min walking but I had great views.

Praça dos Heróis

Budapest, Praça dos Heróis

Content: The sun was really warm so I decided to stay here for a while, taking some photos as an influencer does 😎 After that, I continued my way to Vajdahunyad vára castle.

Castelo de Vajdahunyad

Budapest, Castelo de Vajdahunyad
Budapest, Castelo de Vajdahunyad

Content: This castle in the middle of a huge park is beautiful! All the details from the 1800s are definitely a must-see! However, it’s a high point for any photographer it’s the lake on its side. Turns out, in March it doesn’t have any water 😂 which was a disappointment. Mental note: always check if what you want to photograph will be there.

Termas de Széchenyi

Budapest, Termas de Széchenyi

Content: After the disappointment of of the castle and since I was nearby, I went to check the thermal baths. But since it was a Saturday and probably would be full, I just looked at it from the outside. I went to another thermals in the last day - check it out!🤭

Matinee Coffeeshop

Budapest, Matinee Coffeeshop

Content: Going back to the city centre, I made a pit stop in this cute café to drink a well deserved hot beverage! And yes, by this time it was freezing. Pro-tip: always wear gloves in Budapest!

Most Bistro

Budapest, Most Bistro
Budapest, Most Bistro

Content: After two more hours of just scrolling around and seeing the most beautiful buildings, I ended up at this amazing bistro! Again, the food in Budapest is cheaper than in the rest of Europe and really good!

Ópera Estatal Húngara

Budapest, Ópera Estatal Húngara

Content: After lunch, I went to the House of Terror, which was incredible! But since you can’t take photos inside I will leave you with a photo of the Opera House😛😂 The ticket was 8€

Basílica de Santo Estêvão

Budapest, Basílica de Santo Estêvão

Content: I finished the afternoon at St. Stephen’s Basilica. This is one of Budapest’s main attractions so I recommend you come early in the day or at sunset. You can climb up to the highest tower and see the city from above, which was pretty cool!

360 Bar

Budapest, 360 Bar

Content: For dinner, you need to go to this amazing rooftop where you eat inside an igloo! Super cosy, but be prepared to pay a lot more for food/beverages.

Day 3 - 6 Mar 2022

Fisherman's Bastion

Budapest, Fisherman's Bastion

Content: For the third way I woke up early and we to Fisherman’s Bastion on the Buda side. I must admit it’s way too far. I did it on foot and regretted it since I got a blister 😂 just go by scooter/bike or even by taxi if you want to arrive early. I could talk for hours about this place. It is a masterpiece of architecture. And if you’re a photography fan, be prepared to spend a couple of hours here!

Matthias Church

Budapest, Matthias Church

Content: Mathias Church is actually in the same place as Fisherman’s Bastion, so you won’t have to walk much to see this beauty.

Parliament

Budapest, Parliament

Budapest, Parliament

Content: The Budapest Parliament has 3 interesting sides: the Buda side, right next to Fisherman’s Bastion and the one on the 3rd picture, the front of the parliament, the photo where I’m jumping and the back of the building, on the 2nd picture. Near the back of the parliament, you also have a memorial for Jewish murdered on the side of the river. Is called Shoes by the Danube.

Café New York

Content: After the parliament, I took the subway to the acclaimed Café New York. It is beautiful indeed! All the details, live music and the New York Hotel are just incredible. However, the food was not good and way too expensive. I paid 25€ for a salad and water 😂 not worth staying for lunch, but definitely a must-see. They are used to being the attraction, so even if you don’t want to eat you can move around to take some pictures.

Day 3 - 6 Mar 2022

Budapeste

Budapeste, Budapeste

Content: And for the rest of the day, I can’t give you a precise itinerary of my trip, as I just walked everywhere. I know I went to see the giant wheel and eat an ice cream walking through all the beautiful streets of Budapest. I went to local markets and cooked a meal for myself, opened a bottle of wine and just enjoyed a chilled evening in another country. So let’s skip to Day 4 and thermal baths!

Termas Gellért

Budapest, Termas Gellért

Content: For my last morning in Budapest, and after walking almost 60km in 4 days, I wanted to treat myself to something nice so I went to Gellért Thermal Baths on the Buda side. The best 17€ of the entire trip. They have 6 pools, where the water ranges from 34 to 40º degrees and it’s the best way to relax for a few hours. Inside every pool you have benches so you can just sit there and enjoy yourself. I listened to a podcast while moving through baths 🙌🏼 I came back to Lisbon feeling absolutely refreshed.
