Day 2 - 30 Oct 2021

Pragser Wildsee

Lago di Braies , Pragser Wildsee

Content: We woke up early to visit Lago di Braies. We arrived at LDB aroud 8 am and that was just perfect! We parked our car at Kiosk Parking Pragser Wildsee and had many space left at this hour. There is a parking closer to the lake but it’s 1) busier and 2) more expensive ( around 10 euro). After all it’s only a 10 min walk from the lake, and a path through the woods leads you to it. So if you want to beat the crowd, definitely come early! Arriving at the lake, we were impressed by its beauty. It’s just such an idyllic scene with the cobalt blue water, the mountains behind and the boat house in front of it. At first we walked in front of the lake and took some photos. We really wanted to rent a boat to have the total experience but the boat rental only starts at 10h so we had a coffee first because it was FREEZING cold! LDB is located in a valley so it‘s always a bit colder than the rest of the area. So we dressed with warm sweaters scarfs and a coat. But still it was freezing cold! Next time I would take gloves and put on an extra layer That's basically the best tip for coming to the Dolomites: Wear layers! Because when you stand still for 5 minutes it gets cold pretty fast but when you start moving you start sweating easily too. The boat house opens at 10 am and you can do a 30 min (18€) tour or 60 min (29€) tour. You pay for 60 min and if you come back after 30 min you get the rest of the money refunded. They only accept cash so don’t forget to bring that because there is no ATM anywhere close. When it rains or snows the boat house is closed. Therefore we were really lucky because we were there around November 1st and this time of the year temperature drops and snow or rain is no exception. When you get in the boat you get a blanket and 2 mats to sit on because it’s really cold when you get on the water.

Drei Zinnen

Content: We arrived at 3 Cime early in the afternoon. Where we were before the crowd at lago Di Braies, we were in the middle of the crowd at 3 Cime. Our GPS indicated a traffic accident which caused a long delay. In reality there was no accident but just a long waiting line to enter the natural park where 3 Cime is located. 3 Cime is a collection of 3 mountain peaks that are declared as Unesco World Heritage. They're located in a natural park where you can do several hikes from beginner to advanced. You pay an entrance fee of 30 euro to get into the park by car. Overall conclusion for hiking in 3 Cime / Drei Zinnen 1. We'd definitely do the hike all over again but we would prepare better. We would wear proper hiking shoes and wear thermic tin layers that we can easily take of and put in our backpacks (instead of t-shirt, sweater, coat). 2. We already brought 1.75cl water and some snacks and that was just enough. Next time we might want to bring more. 3. We'd definitely look up our route better! There are not many signs and it's not always clear where the actual path is. So we'll definitely look up in advance in which direction we should go to avoid that we land on a different path. 4. We'd come early to avoid the crowd when entering the park. Although this is not an easy one if you want to combine 2 activities in a day. All the landmarks in the area are very popular so that if you don't come early, it gets crowded. On the other hand, we didn't mind about waiting for 3 Cime too much because we brought lunch with us. This way we had our lunch while we were waiting to enter the park. So that's a great tip for you to do too! Buy your lunch in advance and have it while you are queuing your car to enter the park.

Day 3 - 31 Oct 2021

Lake Sorapis

Lago di Sorapis, Lake Sorapis

Content: Sorapis is being compared to the lakes of Canada such as Moraine lake in Banff National park. Exploring the beautiful photos of this lake all over the internet, we didn't want to miss out on this one either. How to get there? To reach the lake you have to walk a 2 hour hike up the mountain where Sorapis is located, and a 2 hour hike back. You follow the signs for trail 215 Refuggio Vandelli and that leads you to the Lago di Sorapis.

Content: On our last day we went back to Lago di Braies because we didn't want to miss out on the hike around the lake. We're happy that we decided to come back for this because it turned out to be the best part of Lago di Braies. On the hike you get to see the lake from different angles which to our opinion is how you see the true beauty of the place. After doing 2 challenging hikes in 3 Cime and at Lago di Sorapis, this one was a piece of cake! The hike is entry level and can be easily done with kids or elder people. It takes ca. 2 hours to get around and afterwards you can get warmed up at one of the 2 kiosks located at the entrance of the lake area.
