Day 1 - 13 Aug 2021
Content: We arrived to Florence airport and took a taxi to the city center.
Day 1 - 13 Aug 2021
Content: As we arrived before the hotel check in was available, we went to have a lunch and we stopped by Mister Pizza, which was just next to Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore. It was really good!
Day 1 - 13 Aug 2021
Content: After lunch we arrived to our hotel. Rooms are very nice, from some rooms you can still see the cathedral. What is also very cool about this hotel, is its famous terrace with amazing view at Duomo. The terrace is available only for the hotel guests.
Content: We decided to have a walk around the old city center, stopping by Palazzo Vecchio.
Content: Our next spot is Vecchio bridge. It’s pretty different from other bridges and is full of little shops.
Content: We have grabbed a bottle of wine and ordered a pizza (from Mister Pizza as was really good). We decided to have a romantic supper at the hotel rooftop to enjoy the beautiful view by sunset. And we just loved it!
Day 2 - 14 Aug 2021
Content: We stared our day by visiting Santa Maria Novella square and its surrounding.
Content: For lunch we went to brunch called Rooster Cafe Firenze. The food was very yummy! *Right now to eat inside a restaurant you either need vaccine test or valid Covid test. Otherwise you can just take away or eat outside.
Content: After lunch we visited Basilica Santa Cruz and its area.
Day 2 - 14 Aug 2021
Content: On our way to the best view point in the city, we stopped at a lovely spot where you can get great pictures with charming scenery.
Day 2 - 14 Aug 2021
Content: We watched this beautiful view from the Grazie bridge.
Content: We arrived at the Piazzale Michelangelo, where you have amazing view at all the city. We recommend to to arrive there by sunset, which is spectacular and see the city by night as well.
Content: For dinner, took our attention La Vetreria restaurant and it was great choice. Pizza was really good there and the place really was nice as well!
Content: After dinner we stopped by Cafe San Firenze for some drinks. Each costs around 10€ but mine was so delicious! Also you can see at the picture, how nicely they are decorated:)
Day 3 - 15 Aug 2021
Content: We decide to enjoy the hotel terrace again and have our breakfast there (the later it becomes, is getting pretty hot there). The terrace is all the time available for the hotel guests and you can pick your own food there, so we went to the nearest supermarket and bought some croissants, fruits and fresh orange juice. In the hotel room there is kettle, so you can have tea or coffee as well. You can ask reception for a tray to be able to pick it all comfortably to the rooftop:)
Content: Our last spot to visit in Florence was Santa Maria Cathedral. It’s so iconic! You can take so many beautiful pictures here. Tip: If you want to have no people on the picture you should be there very early in the morning because from 8:00-8:30 is getting crowded. * Also if you want to visit it inside and avoid huge queues, you should go as early as possible.
Day 3 - 15 Aug 2021
Content: Before leaving Florence we went for lunch to Oinos. Menu was interesting and dishes we ordered, were good :) After that we went to rent a car to continue our journey by visiting painteresque towns around Tuscany.
Day 3 - 15 Aug 2021
Content: We arrived to the hotel and checked in. We would choose different location of the hotel to stay in Tuscany but we booked our trip last minute in high season and we were lucky we found this one. Also at the end was not as bad located. Rooms are simple but have all is needed and the older Italian couple that owns it, is very friendly. There is no air conditioning and we were worried that it will be too hot as it was August but the hotel is located in very fresh zone and by opening window in the morning or evening we were not missing air conditioning at all. *Breakfast is a Buffett but due to Covid they kept well the measurements and you were saying what you want and they were serving you all. *The croissants are delicious there! *Also you can enjoy beautiful sunrise from the hotel room! Just make sure you have window on the garden side ( not the road).
Day 4 - 16 Aug 2021
Content: We start our visit from Pienza and we walked around to discover its cute little streets. Important: To most of those old towns only citizens can enter by car and there is a photo radar controlling who drive into ( you may not realize that you got a fine until you get a letter with penalty fee once you are back home from holidays) . It’s so easy to miss them so we really recommend always park in the parkings that are announced while you are arriving to the city or it’s center.
Content: In Pienza we stopped at this little restaurant to enjoy Italian cuisine.
Day 4 - 16 Aug 2021
Content: In the afternoon we arrived to this beautiful ruins of a church. The entrance fee is 4€. We really liked it.
Day 4 - 16 Aug 2021
Content: Our last stop of the day is this beautiful view point. We couldn’t wait to get there! When you arrive there you can just park along the road and walk few metes to get to the spot. *We took some wine and snacks with us to have a kind of picnic while enjoying beautiful sunset. Really recommend it!! ( so important to keep the place clean and pick up all the garbage with you)
Day 5 - 17 Aug 2021
Content: Our first stop today is the town that appears in the Twilight Saga. New moon was filmed here - they used the clock tower for the famous scene when Edward was about to reveal his identity;)( But in the movie Montepulciano represents town called Volterra, which we will visit later.
Day 5 - 17 Aug 2021
Content: Our next stop, lovely town called San Gimignano. We walked around it’s cute streets and admired its surrounding.
Content: In San Gimignano we also stayed for lunch. We grabbed a slice of pizza form the closest pizzeria and sit at the church stairs to enjoy the meal. It’s actually so typical in Italy to grab a pizza or focaccia and it somewhere in the stairs - local people may not do that, but tourists definitely yes! :)
Day 5 - 17 Aug 2021
Content: Our last stop for today, Volterra. This is the town that they talk about in Twilight Saga and scenes are supposed to be filmed here, although due to its infrastructure some of them were done in Montepulciano.
Day 6 - 18 Aug 2021
Content: We woke up really early to get there at sunrise as it’s so magical but also to avoid the crowds. Already there were people when we arrived ( some people stay to sleep in tents at the field nearby or in the van at the packing). About the Cascate del Mulino: -it’s public with free access -there is a parking nearby ( after 8am you need to pay a fee) -during high season is getting crowded from about 7:30am -smell is not that bad ( at least in the morning) and once you pass the sulfur smell, the place is super relaxing. *There are few more thermal pools in the zone.
Day 6 - 18 Aug 2021
Content: We stop by this famous view point, which is actually private property/ restaurant. It’s just next to the road so it’s difficult to miss ;)
Day 6 - 18 Aug 2021
Content: Our last stop before living Tuscany is Capella Della Madonna di Vitaleta. This place was lost in the middle of nowhere but recently become pretty famous spot to visit on your road trip. Now they decide to build a restaurant next to this little chapel;)
