Day 1 - 24 Jun 2021
Content: Landed at the airport of Brindisi, we rent the car and despite the heat we do not waste time.. first stop: Locorotondo! ( I advise you to always rent a car when in Apulia and not to use public transport because you’d risk wasting so much time) Locorotondo is a typical village in the Apulian countryside, characterized by white buildings, beautiful flowered balconies and its circolar shape from which it takes its name. We decide to taste the Apulian food, and we have lunch at “Trattoria al Vecchio Arco” where we eat the typical Apulian orecchiette with tomato, pecorino and basil, very delicious!! Highly recommended for the food and the kindness of the owners!
Day 1 - 24 Jun 2021
Content: Because of the great heat, we decide to go to the hotel and relax by the pool before dinner. This B&B, we booked via Booking, is super cute.. the room is spacious and very well furnished and the atmosphere is so relaxing all around!
Day 2 - 25 Jun 2021
Content: We decided to spend the second day enjoying the most beautiful beaches of Salento. First stop is Punta Prosciutto, a long white beach with crystal clear water on the Ionian coast of Apulia. Unfortunately in the afternoon it became too crowded then we moved to the opposite coast..
Day 2 - 25 Jun 2021
Content: We arrived at Torre dell’orso beach at sunset time and the light was so magical! ☞ You can reach the most panoramic point by walk overlooking le “Due Sorelle”. Coordinates: (40.2687812, 18.4369465)
Day 2 - 25 Jun 2021
Content: One of the main attractions of Salento is this natural open-air cave from where you can take a special bath. The cave is located within an archaeological area and you have to pay an entrance fee. I suggest to go at sunset for a magical atmosphere!
Day 2 - 25 Jun 2021
Content: For dinner we stopped at a little restaurant by the sea in San Foca, known for cooking fresh sea urchins, have you ever tasted them? Very typical and good!
Day 3 - 26 Jun 2021
Content: If you visit Puglia, you can’t miss the beautiful Matera in the southern region of Basilicata! Matera is one of the oldest towns in the world and the surrounding area is bears signs of human settlements from Paleolithic times to modern day. The Sassi of Matera are famous throughout the world and this original urban settlement, originally a series of natural caves hewn out of the rock, developed into a more complex structure located within two large natural amphitheatres: the Sasso Caveoso and the Sasso Barisano. In 1993, UNESCO included the Sassi of Matera and the Murgia National Park in World Heritage Sites. ☞ Coordinates of the best panoramic spot: (40.6642712, 16.6118508)
Day 3 - 26 Jun 2021
Content: For lunch we stopped at one of the most beautiful hotel in Matera, with a panoramic terrace overlooking the city! I recommend wearing comfortable shoes and getting lost in all the historic alleys!
Day 3 - 26 Jun 2021
Content: We spent the night in the charming Monopoli and we had the best dinner at “Porto Rosso” restaurant, look at the view! So romantic!
Day 4 - 27 Jun 2021
Content: My favorite place to visit in Apulia is definitely Ostuni, also called the White City. Its charming white houses spread out over the top of three hills and offer great views over the Adriatic sea below which is just 8km away and give Ostuni more the feel of a Greek than an Italian city. We spent the 4th day here getting lost in its narrow streets and typical shops! ☞ What to see in Ostuni: The main monuments to see are the cathedral, the Bishop's Palace and the church of San Vito Martire.
Day 4 - 27 Jun 2021
Content: You can’t leave Ostuni without a photo in front of the door that has become the symbol of the town: the House with the blue door! A Blue/green door with cactus and the traditional white wall, I mean, anything more typical? I suggest to go at sunset if you want to enjoy an happy hour in one of the little bars around there, or to go during the day to take a pic in front of it because it’s much less crowded!
Day 4 - 27 Jun 2021
Content: And then we drove up to the beautiful Polignano a Mare.. We wanted to visit Polignano during the golden hour because of the magical sunset light! The most suggestive point is on the golden rocks in front of the town from which you can see the view of the little bay and the white houses.. you can tra reach it with a short walk from the city center!
Content: I absolutely recommend to have dinner at “Il Bastione” restaurant! You can have the best fish food and the best view! It was very romantic!
Day 5 - 28 Jun 2021
Content: The next day we visited Cisternino, in the middle of the Itria Valley! The architecture is typical of the region with an old historical city center containing white-washed, stone buildings with cool, shaded, cave-like interiors, narrow streets and churches. It reminded us very much of the nearby Locorotondo that we visited the first day.. ☞ “Frisellanna” for the best and the most delicious Friselle Pugliesi, a large, round piece of dry, baked durum wheat flour, often with a hole in the center, very typical of Puglia!
Day 5 - 28 Jun 2021
Content: We spent the golden hour in San Vito, a small fishing village near Polignano where we enjoyed the sunset behind the ancient abbey on the sea! It was very suggestive!
Day 6 - 29 Jun 2021
Content: On the last day we decided to visit the pearl of the Itria valley, Alberobello! With its Trulli it has become a Unesco World Heritage Site and a must to see when in Puglia! What is a Trullo? A Trullo is a traditional Apulian dry stone hut with a conical roof and Alberobello contains dense concentrations of trulli. I suggest to visit it during the morning to avoid crowds!
Day 6 - 29 Jun 2021
Content: Before going back to the airport we relaxed in the swimming pool of our hotel and we had a really wonderful time! As you can see, Puglia is a very beautiful Italian region with a wonderful sea, good food and lots to visit! We will come back for sure!
