Piazza Statuto

Malcesine, Piazza Statuto

Content: After starting our road trip in the night in Salzburg (where we still didn‘t really know where we would go, haha) we decided along the way towards Italy to make a first stop at Lago di Garda in Malcesine and go for breakfast there. You can park the car directly in the at a car park. It is called Parking Centro 2.

Content: We arrived in during rush hour in Bologna, so it took us a while to reach the parking garage the hotel had recommended to us. From there it took us another 15 minutes of walking, as you‘re not allowed to drive into the Center of Bologna as a tourist. The check in was so easy and the staff was really kind. The hotel was really pretty, clean and with charming interieur. The hotel is located directly next to the iconic leaning Twin Towers of Bologna, Tower degli Asinelli and Garisonda. Also it’s just a few steps away from the main square in Bologna and everything important to see is walkable. For one night this was the perfect option for us!

Content: We got up early as we wanted to get some shots in the city without crowds. First stop was the Torre Degli Asinelli and Garisenda right next to our hotel, and it due to their hight was really not that easy to find an angle we liked for a photo. If we would have had more time we would have definately walked up the one tower that you can visit: The Asinelli Tower. Definately giving it a go next time :-)

Content: The Basilica makes up a very pretty photo background as its architecture is really unique and has a bizarre history: San Petronio was originally built with the intention to become the largest church in the world. But in the end Pope Pius IV prevented the construction to be completed and so the facade was never finished and only half covered with beautiful marble. At least it is today the 7th largest church worldwide.

Content: After check-out we went to the car park again, and there we came along La Finestrella die Via Piella, also known as ’Little Venice‘ of Bologna. Bologna has a canal system of over 60 km, and it was used in Medieval times to transport goods through the city. Finally back at the car we actually wanted to visit Tuscany, but the weather was said to become really bad with lots of rain over the next days. We decided to drive towards Florence and to see if the weather really would get do bad. Unfortunately it quickly did, so we had to come up with a plan B. Which was driving all the way down to the South of Italy, to the currently sunny Amalfi coast. 8 hours of research and it was really difficult to find a nice, but affordable accomodation, as we wanted to stay in the center of Positano. Additionally we had to book something with a private parking space enough for our Ford Mondeo. We can‘t recommend enough going to Amalfi coast with a small car, the streets are really narrow and proper parking space is more than rare!

With the prices in Positano not that easy though ;-) Lots of restaurants were already closed, but then we came across the fine cuisine restaurant Max. And even if prices were really high, this evening we decided to give it a go. It really paid off with one of the best dinners we ever had in our entire life! The service was great and the staff also incredibly nice.

As we arrived a shuttle service brought us to our hotel in the middle of the ancient Sassi. Actually we had booked a cave room for three nights at our hotel online. But as we arrived we got an upgrade from the owner of our beautiful hotel, because with the humid climate in the cave houses it is not healthy for your lungs.
