Day 1 - 6 Sep 2020
Content: We started our trip by car from the Province of Treviso (where we live). I recommend that you land at Treviso or Venice airport and rent a car. The first destination was Lake Mis, an artificial body of water located in the province of Belluno. Once you arrive on the shores of this lake you can relax and whoever wants to can bathe in it, there are also areas equipped for picnics and barbecues.
Day 1 - 6 Sep 2020
Content: On this trip we ate mainly packed, to save time, money and above all to stay in contact with nature as much as possible. Except for a few occasions, like this one, where we found some really affordable restaurants close to places to visit. We reached this place to visit a waterfall and before the trail starts to get there is this little restaurant. I highly recommend it, you will find typical products at bargain prices. Being in Veneto you can taste the sandwich with sopressa, local cheeses and drink excellent wine!
Day 1 - 6 Sep 2020
Content: The Soffia Waterfalls are a true spectacle of nature: a twelve-meter jump, which the rocks make echo even more, make this place magical and breathtaking.
Day 1 - 6 Sep 2020
Content: To reach this place, I recommend that you leave your car in the Cascata della Soffia car park and walk. An easy path leads to a sequence of 15 deep cavities dug by the waters of the Brentòn stream, which flows from clear waterfalls: they are the Cadini del Brentòn. Park access ticket price € 2.00. The payment of the ticket entitles you to: - access the botanical garden, - access the path that leads to Cadini del Brenton, - receive a souvenir bookmark of the Cadini as a gift.
Day 1 - 6 Sep 2020
Content: Unfortunately, the weather in the mountains changes quickly! It was starting to cloud over and we headed towards Lake Alleghe, to make one last stop before reaching our accommodation. This lake is very nice, there is a path to do all around and it is full of flowered corners.
Day 1 - 6 Sep 2020
Content: We finally reached our accommodation "Suite Mia" in the heart of Falcade, a beautiful village in a valley. On this trip we changed structures almost every night, to be able to see as many places as possible, so we only stayed here one night. It is a brand new guest house, the rooms are all equipped with every comfort, very typical and with a balcony.
Content: After checking in and arranging our things we went out for a walk in Falcade, to look for a pizzeria in which to dine.
Day 1 - 6 Sep 2020
Content: We chose to go to this pizza restaurant, here you will find many good things!
Day 2 - 7 Sep 2020
Content: Passo Giau is one of the most beautiful in the Dolomites, in fact we decided to start the day right here. We have also been there in winter, with snow, and it is really beautiful in all seasons! Every time we go we dedicate at least an hour of time to take pictures and I really recommend doing it if you are passionate about photography.
Content: For lunch we stopped at the restaurant right next to the car parks, where all the paths start. The cuisine is excellent and typical, we tried spinach spätzle with speck and tagliolini, bacon and eggs.
Content: After lunch we then headed, on foot, to the Baste Lake. The Baste Lake can be reached very easily by following the signs for Forcella Giau - Forcella Ambrizzola (and for the famous Giro della Croda da Lago), with a walk of about forty minutes. After taking some photos and enjoying the view, we returned to the parking lot (another 40 minutes of walking) and headed to the next stop.
Day 2 - 7 Sep 2020
Content: Cortina is one of the most famous cities in the Dolomites, a tourist destination for many VIPs from all over the world. Surely it is a small jewel nestled in the mountains, but watch out for the prices!
Day 2 - 7 Sep 2020
Content: After seeing Cortina we headed to Lake Misurina, another beautiful lake in the Dolomites. We stopped just to relax a bit and take some photos, if you have time I recommend taking the route around the lake, it is very impressive!
Day 2 - 7 Sep 2020
Content: We then reached the structure where we spent the night, a B&B in the center of Auronzo di Cadore. The rooms are beautiful, in a modern mountain style, with all comforts and mountain views. Breakfast is included in the room rate!
Day 3 - 8 Sep 2020
Content: The day started with an excellent breakfast in our B&B. In fact, in this structure, unlike the previous one, the room price also includes breakfast. You will find typical products of all kinds and homemade desserts, all very good!
Day 3 - 8 Sep 2020
Content: After checking out we left things in the car and decided to visit the country on foot. The village is very nice and there is also a beautiful lake, it is the ideal place for a walk.
Day 3 - 8 Sep 2020
Content: We then took the car and headed towards Calalzo di Cadore, to see its lake but above all to make a very beautiful path.
Day 3 - 8 Sep 2020
Content: After a short walk in the woods, lasting about 15 minutes, you arrive at Lago delle Tose, a small body of water known since Roman times for its thermal characteristics and the benefits of its waters. After about 10 minutes, an area opens up where the pines are more sparse and a lot of water flows on the rocks, giving shape to the famous Cascatelle di Lagole. It is a beautiful sight: the low slope of the rocks allows you to cross the waterfalls with ease, but if you walk another 5 minutes you will come to see the small Tose lake, a natural pool formed in a rocky pool. Here you can also take a dip (if the water is not too cold), because these hot springs have healing properties.
Day 3 - 8 Sep 2020
Content: The next stop of the day was Val Comelico, in particular the village of Padola. In addition to the beautiful village to visit, in summer it is the excursions through the paths in the woods that attract the interest of tourists, often attracted by the splendid Dolomite sceneries. I recommend the thematic trail TRÒI DLI MASCRI (PATH OF THE MASKS). If you do not want to follow the paths you can reach, by car, some of the neighboring villages. I recommend Sappada!
Day 3 - 8 Sep 2020
Content: After a nice walk we reached the structure where we stayed that night, in San Candido. So we left the Veneto region (all the places seen up to now were in that region) and arrived in Alto Adige. This is also a modern and well-kept structure, the room is simple but very nice and with an excellent quality-price ratio, especially given the area that is usually expensive!
Content: Inside the hotel there is also a small Spa where you can relax and a restaurant perfect for dinner!
Day 4 - 9 Sep 2020
Content: We decided to spend a good part of this day at Lake Braies, one of the most beautiful lakes in the Dolomites and in Italy. The atmosphere in this place is very suggestive, the color of the water is unique and seeing the boats floating is truly magical. I recommend arriving early, this place is visited every day by thousands of people. To reach it, unless you go in low season, you have to leave your car in a parking lot and get on a paid shuttle bus. Look for the "Segheria" car park, it costs € 9 for the whole day, from 8 am to 4 pm. Given the very high number of visitors, in the summer months, it is mandatory to book parking in advance between 10 July and 10 September. The cost of the shuttle bus ticket is € 10, round trip, I absolutely recommend that you book the ticket online as well, to secure your seats. Alternatively there is a path to walk which takes about 3 hours (but not worth it). Once you arrive you can rent a boat and float on the lake, a unique experience to do absolutely! The cost is a bit high: € 29 an hour, € 19 half an hour (the cost is per boat), but it is absolutely worth it. After returning the boat, I also recommend that you take the path that goes around the lake, so you can see it from every angle!
Day 4 - 9 Sep 2020
Content: After a day spent at Lake Braies (for the prices it has I recommend you spend as much time as possible) we decided to take a walk in Brunico, a beautiful town in the heart of Val Pusteria. Here you can also find many places to eat something for dinner!
Day 4 - 9 Sep 2020
Content: After visiting Brunico and eating a quick thing we went to another hotel we stayed in. This time we will stay for 2 nights, because it is in a strategic position! Another beautiful structure, with super rooms and many services, It is located in the center of Chiusa, a beautiful village! If you want to take advantage of it in the evening, you can go for a walk, as the center comes alive.
Day 5 - 10 Sep 2020
Content: We started the day with a nice breakfast in our hotel (you can find a rich sweet and savory buffet), then we checked out and started the day.
Day 5 - 10 Sep 2020
Content: On this day we decided to visit the Renon Plateau, in the heart of South Tyrol: charming villages, gentle vineyards in the valley and the highest peaks of the Alps, offer recreation, culture and nature to experience and savor. We reached Collalbo to take a special experience: the red train of Renon. The train connects Collalbo to Soprabolzano, with a path between mountains, woods and ancient churches. The journey takes about 20 minutes. Round trip ticket 6€. If you also want to take the cable car, which leaves right from Soprabolzano, you can take a combined ticket costing € 15 (includes the round trip by train and the round trip by cable car).
Day 5 - 10 Sep 2020
Content: Once you arrive at your destination you will find a very cute village and many paths immersed in nature, such as the one that leads to the earth pyramids. We took a nice walk towards the town of Maria Assunta and then we went back to eat something.
Day 5 - 10 Sep 2020
Content: We stopped here for lunch, it says it's a butcher shop but inside you can find everything (it's more of a rotisserie), including homemade sweets. The thing I recommend most to eat is a speck sandwich. Here, in fact, they make you sandwiches at the moment: they cut the fresh bread they produce (you can also choose the type of bread you prefer) and fill it with freshly sliced speck. This area of Italy is particularly famous for the production of speck and it is really delicious! Inside and outside you will find tables to eat what you buy, otherwise there is a square with many benches right in front.
Content: In the afternoon we decided to take the cable car that from Soprabolzano leads directly to the center of Bolzano. As mentioned before, if you take the combined ticket (train + cable car) the total is € 15.
Day 5 - 10 Sep 2020
Content: The valley station of the cable car is centrally located in Bolzano, the historic city center can be easily reached on foot in ten minutes or by bus in less than five minutes. I recommend spending the whole afternoon here, because the city is big and there is a lot to visit. Not to be missed: Piazza Walther, Duomo, Piazza del Grano, Via dei Portici, Piazza delle Erbe, Archaeological Museum, Via Bottai. Once the visit is over, you can take the cable car to back to the Renon plateau and take the Trenino Rosso to return to Collalbo.
Day 6 - 11 Sep 2020
Content: After having breakfast and checking out we left our hotel and headed to our first stop: Val di Funes, a small but fascinating valley in South Tyrol. It is one of the last uncontaminated valleys and for this reason it attracts millions of visitors every year for its tranquility and the richness of its breathtaking views. There are many paths to do, we have walked in the surroundings.
Day 6 - 11 Sep 2020
Content: One of the most beautiful and photographed places in Val di Funes is certainly this small church. Very impressive to see, but to visit it up close you have to pay a € 4 ticket.
Day 6 - 11 Sep 2020
Content: Leaving Val di Funes we made a last stop in Ortisei, before returning home. It is a really nice village, located in a valley surrounded by the Dolomites. If you want to stay one more night I recommend that you stay in this town and the next day take the cable car to the Alpe di Siusi, another spectacle of nature!
