Bari, Bari

Content: For this trip we left by car from Venice (we live nearby) but the best airport to land in is Bari, which was our first stop. Bari, one of the most famous cities in Puglia, a maze of alleys, courtyards, historic and local buildings, with 30 churches and wonderful architecture such as the Basilica of San Nicola, the Romanesque Basilica of San Gregorio, the Cathedral of San Sabino and the Norman-Swabian Castle.

Content: After breakfast we left in the direction of "Maldive del Salento". The beach of Marina di Pescoluse, in fact, is also known with this name for its clear and transparent water and the white and fine sand. I advise you to arrive in this place early in the morning, especially in the months of July and August, because it is besieged.

Content: Before returning to Gallipoli we decided to visit the "Grotta della Poesia", not very far from the "Faraglioni of Sant'Andrea". Here too, due to the strong wind, we did "hit and run" but it was worth it since there was no one and the landscape was gorgeous!

Otranto, Lighthouse Punta Palascìa

Content: Before leaving Salento we made 3 other unmissable stops. The first was at the Punta Palascia lighthouse, the easternmost point of Italy, where the Adriatic Sea meets the Ionian Sea. This place, in fact, is the first Italian place where the sun rises in the morning. The landscape is surreal, very reminiscent of the Scottish cliffs.

Otranto, Sosta e gusta pucceria rosticceria

Content: At lunchtime we arrived in Otranto and we couldn't fail to taste another typical specialty: the Puccia, a special bread that can be filled with whatever you want. I chose dried tomatoes, burrata (typical Apulian), bacon and zucchini, a goodness! I absolutely recommend this place, because the prices are good and it is located right in the main alleys of the village.

Content: Our last stop in Salento was the beach of Punta Prosciutto, in fact we wanted to take another swim in a heavenly place. The water in this beach is reminiscent of Caribbean colors and the seabed is spectacular, especially recommended for those who love snorkeling.

Content: We then finally reached the Itria Valley, an area where villages, olive trees, trulli and masserie prevail. We have decided to sleep in a masseria, a typical Apulian structure. If you are staying in this area I recommend that you choose to sleep in a masseria, or in a trullo, it is a unique experience! The structure where we stayed has only 2 exclusive apartments, both equipped with every comfort, including a kitchen. In fact we bought some typical things and cooked for dinner.

Content: The first stop of the day could only be the symbol of the Itria Valley, as well as one of the most famous places in Puglia: Alberobello, the city of the Trulli. For the uninitiated, the trullo is a typical Apulian house, conical in shape, once used by farmers and locals. Alberobello is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, each alley is full of flowers and decorations, there are shops with typical products and shops where they demonstrate how trulli were built. This place looks like a magical village!

The Trattoria "Bère Vecchie" is one of the best known, thanks also to the tables positioned right in the streets of the village where you can eat.

Content: We then went to Locorotondo, bigger than the 2 previous villages. Locorotondo is a light-colored village, also decorated by an infinity of flowers along its streets. We wanted to take things calmly, given the heat of that day. As soon as we arrived we went to a typical ice cream shop, we sat down and relaxed for a while enjoying a good homemade ice cream. After the break we started to get lost in the streets of the city, visiting the churches, entering the shops and taking lots of photos. Before leaving Locorotondo the lights began to turn on and the squares began to come to life. In fact, I recommend visiting this village in the late afternoon and then stopping in the evening, there are many very interesting places, even for dinner!

Content: Before arriving here we went to a local bakery to eat a panzerotto, you can really find it everywhere! We decided to stop and visit this place, despite the strong heat and the time, because not having much time available we couldn't lose it. Cala Port'Alga is a small bay where the water is turquoise and clear, perfect for taking a dip! Its boat-shaped library overlooking the sea is also very famous.

Before starting we went to our room to freshen up, change and rest a bit, around 17.30 / 18 we started! The cooking class is organized directly in the garden, some local ladies teach you how to prepare typical Apulian products, such as foccia and orecchiette. At the end of the lesson we cook and eat, all accompanied by their own wine and oil. An experience to do absolutely!

Content: With the last super breakfast in the Masseria we also say goodbye to this area, check-in and head to the next destination. This property is beautiful and super modern, equipped with every comfort.

Matera

Matera, Matera

Content: Finally Matera, one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, a small jewel carved into the mountains, where time seems to have stopped and the surrounding landscape is no different from that of a painting. A complex beauty that can only be understood when you walk around the narrow alleys of the historic center and the houses carved into the tuff. In addition to history, art and culture you will find Matera very "lively", in fact I recommend going there in the late afternoon and staying there until the evening, the main streets will come alive and the atmosphere will be beautiful, even more so when the lights turn on .

Location: Altamura

Day 7 - 19 Jun 2021

Pasticceria Monastero di S. Chiara

Altamura, Pasticceria Monastero di S. Chiara

Content: The structure where we slept in Altamura is not a B & B but offers overnight accommodation only, but offers its guests breakfast in the nearby pastry shop. This pastry shop is not like the others, here the recipe for the "tette delle monache" was born, do not be fooled by the name, they are very soft sponge cakes, filled to taste. These sweets are typical of Altamura and it is said that they were invented right in the convent, still present today, in front of this pastry shop and that the nuns then passed the recipe to them. In breakfast you can choose between one of these sweets or a croissant, but I absolutely recommend you try them because they are delicious!

Altamura
