Content: La Valletta is the capital of Malta. Its center is not very big and it is possible to visit it in one day, however there are many interesting things to see. You enter the historic center from the Valletta City Gate, the city gate renovated by Renzo Piano together with the Parliament Building. Malta has a very fascinating history linked to the Knights of Malta and to discover it at its best, I suggest you join a guided tour.

Content: Start your visit at St John's Co-Cathedral on Republic Street. Inside there are pillars and walls of gold, frescoes painted by Caravaggio and the tombs of the Knights of Malta. To enter you must have your shoulders and knees covered and, in order not to damage the flooring, high heels are not allowed.

Content: At noon, go to the Upper Barrakka Gardens to attend to the traditional cannon shooting ceremony. From here you will have a spectacular view of the harbor and the 3 cities.

Content: From the Upper Barrakka Gardens, continue walking through the narrow streets of Valletta to Forte Sant’Elmo. The Grand Master's Palace was the seat of the Grand Masters of the Order of Malta. Do not miss the State Rooms and the Armory where the armor of the knights are kept.

Content: The three cities of Senglea, Vittoriosa and Cospicua are located in the gulf of Grand Harbor opposite Valletta. To reach the 3 Cities, take the panoramic lift located in the Upper Barrakka Gardens. At the pier you will find the shuttle that crosses the gulf to the 3 cities in 10 minutes. The Knights settled in Vittoriosa on their arrival in Malta in 1530 and made it their capital, before building Valletta. Forte Sant’Angelo is one of the symbols of the Order of the Knights, who resisted the Great Ottoman Siege of 1565 from here. The Three Cities have delightful alleys where you can simply stroll around to admire their beauty.

Content: Palazzo Preca is a very welcoming restaurant located in the heart of Valletta, in a historic noble building. Reservations are highly recommended. The menu offers various courses of fish and meat, starting from the appetizers up to the main dishes. They offered us small fried fish burgers as a welcome.

Content: Marsaxlokk is a very picturesque old fishing village. The bay in front that forms a natural harbor is characterized by the colorful Luzzu, the traditional Maltese boats colored in yellow, red and blue with winking eyes for good luck positioned on the bow. Enjoy an excellent seafood lunch in one of the many restaurants on the harbor.

Content: Popeye Village is the place where the film “Popeye” (with Robin Williams) was shot. The set was kept standing and turned into a small amusement park. There is no need to pay to enter the park, but it is still an opportunity to admire the view with all the colorful houses from the nearby cliff.

Content: Blue Grotto is a large natural arch shaped by the sea 43 meters high. Stop first to see it from the top of the Belvedere. The view of the rock standing out against the blue of the sea and the sky is amazing. I also recommend you take an excursion on one of the typical Maltese boats, to see the caves and all the nuances of the water up close. They are small 8-seater boats and it will take you around 20/30 minutes around.

Content: High cliffs representing the highest point in Malta, with a beautiful panoramic view. To reach them you will have to leave the car and walk along a dirt path. By car you will have to be content to follow the Triq Panoramika.

Content: Small restaurant with excellent dishes. We ate exceptional raw fish, burrata and meat tartare, homemade linguine with fish. Finally I had the typical dessert, the imqaret with honey and cinnamon ice cream. All very good.

Content: A very charming fortified city, in light stone. Called the Silent City and walking through its alleys you will understand why. Not to be missed in Medina: St Paul's Cathedral and its museum, Palazzo Vilhena, Palazzo Falson, Villegaignon Street. I recommend a guided tour of M’dina to learn about the history of what was the ancient capital of Malta before Valletta. A night walk is very fascinating.

Content: Spend a day on the nearby island of Gozo. To go to Gozo, take the ferry at Cirkewwa and you will arrive in Gozo in 20 minutes. You can board the ferry with your rental car. The first thing to see in Gozo is the fortified citadel of Victoria, the old prisons and the cathedral. From here you will also have a beautiful panoramic view of the island. On Repubblika Street you will find many cafes and restaurants to eat.

Content: Go to Dwejra. Here was the famous Azure Window which collapsed but there are other interesting points to see such as the Inland Sea, the Deep Blue Hole and the Fungus Rock. Dwejra is also a very famous place among Game of Thrones fans: some scenes from the TV show were actually filmed there.
