Content: When arrived, we followed the signs that indicate the beach and after a very short walk we find ourselves in front of a gigantic fine and white sand beach, with a wonderful crystalline and very calm sea! Very happy, despite the strong wind, we place our towels and go to the water: it's freezing! We had a read about thecold ocean water but we didn't imagine that much! A few photos, a daring dive and we escaped to the sun, but how do other people dare to swim ?!

Content: We decided to visit the beautiful city of Cascais: with a romantic and vintage touch, a real gem. We got lost into the alleys and finded Praia Da Reina, a delightful beach in a rocky cove. We continued walikng: the carousel carillon in the square is beautiful, it seems to live in the past!

Content: We started from the Santa Apollonia train statio in Lisboa to take the Intercidades regional train (IC code) which takes 3h20 and costs € 25.10 each way, otherwise there is the Alfa Pendular express train (AP code) ) Which costs € 31.70 and takes 2h50 to get there. Both stop at Porto Campanha station, from where metropolitan trains pass very often and in 5 minutes, with one stop, take you to the central station of São Bento, and the cost is included in the train ticket. Arriving in São Bento, what a beauty: the station is majestic and full of beautiful Azulejos!

Content: Closes at 7pm, we bought tickets online on the train, € 5 which is deducted if you buy a book. In this wonderful and historic bookshop in Porto, Harry Potter was filmed, and you can only imagine the queue to get inside! After an hour, in fact, we are able to access: The library does not disappoint expectations: it is splendid! Precious and in sumptuous wood, with the majestic central red staircase! We felt like Belle in the Beast's castle library!

Content: Decided to eat something, we head on foot towards the Ribeira, the bank of the Douro river, where we knew there are many cafes and restaurants! Once arrived, we felt in love immediately: the colorful houses, crowded together, on the two banks of the Douro river, the street musicians, the sound of Portuguese fado, soap bubbles, the sun that was about to set: a show that fills eyes and soul!

Content: We had dinner outside, near the Douro river, and ordered a nice plate of really good seafood noodles, with fresh fish! A glass of Porto from cave Ferreira was a must, be careful because it's so alcoholic!

Content: We got up and, despite the frizzy air, we kept walking: we were determined to discover more on this bank of the Douro River! The sun setted down and we enjoy the show: the warm light shined on the river and softly outlined the silhouettes. The atmosphere was beautiful, nostalgic and romantic: tipically portuguese!

Content: While walking, we saw the gigantic Half Rabbit mural / sculpture popping up from an alley, made up of waste materials, the work of the Portuguese street artist Bordalo II: the rabbit represented is beautiful and giant, the artist is so brilliant! The work is voluntarily left in half in the original colors of the materials used, to raise awareness about recycling, against global waste. We waited for the evening to see the Ribeira and the Dom Luís I Bridge enlightened, then we went back to the other side, we took a bus and we got home!

Content: We went to Rua di S.Catarina, where the Capela das Almas de Santa Catarina is located, not very big but beautiful and colorful, with the facade and the side wall covered with azulejos. We entered to admire its beauty, typically nostalgic in Portuguese style, and even inside we found the beautiful Azulejos.

Content: From the Tower dos Clerigos, right in front of the Lello's Library, we had the possibility to admire a suggestive wiew of Porto from above! Be prepared for about 500 quite narrow steps! Once at the top we recommend something to cover you with, the wind is very strong! The view is worth the "climb": you can see Porto from every angle, even if the part that strikes us the most is the Ribeira with its houses: that area is too beautiful! The ticket costs 5 euros and also includes a visit to the museums of the brotherhood, children under 10 enter for free Hours: every day from 9 to 19

Content: Descending from the tower, we headed towards Praca da Universidade, immediately in front of, where a beautiful fountain dominates, and the Igreja Do Carmo behind it is very beautiful, typically covered with azulejos.

Content: Very close to Torre dos Clerigos, we suggest you to visit a very instagrammable place, Guilherme Gomes Fernandes square, where is located a beautiful 20 metres long murales by the artist Joana Vasconcelos, covering the facade of Steak'n Shake, the third and largest restaurant of the American burger chain in Portugal!

Content: A bus took us to the Jardim do Palacio de Cristal, whose access is free. That's where we found the huge blue word "Porto" and we te lots of photos. We admired the spectacle of nature: roosters and peacocks were roaming free... ponds with verdant plants and flowers enchanted us, up to the rose garden, not blooming since we were at the end of July, but panoramic and spectacular! We then moved towards the miradouro, which offered us a wonderful view of the river.

Content: We kept walking to reach the famous Belém Tower. A few minutes' walk and there it was, directly on the Tagus! After some pictures outside, we decided to enter to enjoy the view from the top of the tower: the entry with the Lisboa Card waa totally free! Normally the ticket price is: € 6 for adults, free for children under 12 years. The times are: October - April: 10.00 / 17.00 May - September: 10.00 / 18.30 The tower consists in five floors, and ends with a terrace. We began to climb the narrow stone staircase and almost reached the top, discovering that the terrace was temporarily closed. It didn't mattered, we were already high enough and the tower was very beautiful, offering magnificent views of the Tagus from every angle!

Content: We went down quickly, it's almost time for lunch and we wanted to taste the famous Pastel de Belèm! After a short walk we arrived at the historic Pasteis de Belèm pastry shop: there are two lines, for those who want to sit down and one for take away. We took a pastela do bacalao (codfish crumpet) and a classic sweet pastela de Belèm to take away, and we had lunch in the beautiful park opposite the street. The goodness of the Belèm crumpet, still hot, can't be told: it must be tasted, with some cinnamon on top is the way!

Content: We took a bus and in two minutes we were back to the station, direction Praia do Tamariz, in Estoril! We took the train to Cascais, always free thanks to the Lisboa Card, and in about twenty minutes we arrived. We stopped at Estoril station and the directions took us to the beach in two minutes: white sand and crystal clear water await for us. (Icy water here too , we understand that each of our dives in Portugal will be a test of courage), a very characteristic tower overlooks the bay: perfect background for photos! The beach was not very crowded and was great, time passed quickly and after a few hours we git up, went home to have dinner and rest!

New Moment

Content: Was the birthday of one of us girls, Noemi, who was celebrating 30 years and we surprised her: a red velvet cake taken in a cute bakery near home, New Moment Lisboa, a little corner of paradise that creates milkshakes, coffee and delicious artisan desserts; friendly and helpful owner and staff! We accompanied the cake with a nice caramel latte, what a goodness! Birthday breakfast over, we wee ready to go!

Content: We went to a beautiful greenhouse, Estufa Fria, which can be visited for free thanks to the card, and we didn't want to miss it! Can be reached from the gardens of the Eduardo VII Park, and we immediately discovered that we have made an excellent choice, the greenhouse was a true marvel: tropical plants of all kinds, ponds and streams: it seemed to be in a jungle! Truly a sight not to be missed, if you are willing to endure some tropical heat: it is worth all the effort, guaranteed! Normally the ticket costs 3.10 euros, and the opening hours are from 10 to 19.

Content: After the wonderful visit, we wrnt to the nearby Campolide train station, from which we took the train to Setubal. Always free thanks to the Lisboa Card, our journey took about 45 minutes, and normally the ticket costs 4.50 euros each way. Arriving in Setubal station, in a short walk we were at the bus 722 stop, which in 15 minutes took us to Praia Figueirinha, along the sea. We got off the bus and head left, to the beautiful bay of white sand and rocks: a breathtaking beach, crystal clear and, guess what, freezing water! We took several photos, and after a very quick ice bath, some sun and relaxation we decided was time to got home and celebrate Noemi's birthday! We took the bus back (which lines up to get on) and then the train to Setubal station: in just over an hour we were home.

Content: We went to an Italian restaurant with excellent reviews, Forno d'Oro, which has the certificate of authentic Neapolitan pizzeria and a nice wood oven: got there, we had a pizza as a starter and then a nice plate of spaghetti with fresh Obidos clams, really excellent even if a bit 'too "garlicy" for our tastes. We ended with a slice of chocolate cake and two coffees: 30 euros each person.

Content: We woke up calmly and, after prepared a quick packed lunch, we got to the central train station of Rossio to take the train that took us to Sintra in 40 minutes. The return ticket costs around 4.50 euros, but we travellef for free thanks to the Lisboa Card! Departures are very frequent, about every 20 minutes, and last until late in the evening.

Content: Arrived at the Sintra station, many people proposed to reach the historic center by tuk tuk, but we decided to walk instead and followed the brown signs that said "centro historico" and, after a pleasant walk along a tree-lined avenue, we were in the heart of the village, very small but characteristic, with narrow lanes and small places perched on stairs and climbs. A quick tour, a photo at the Palacio Nacional, characteristic for its two white domed roofs, and we stopped for lunch.

Content: To visit the Castelo dos Mouros and the Palacio da Pena you have to take bus number 434, which makes a circular route and whose ticket costs 6.90 euros for the round trip, while for a single ride 3.90 euros. Strengthened by a blog article on Sintra read on the internet, which suggested we stop at Castelo dos Mouros and then take a "sweet walk" to the Palacio da Pena, we get off at the Castle stop, and bought the entrance tickets: 15% discount thanks to the Lisboa Card! Normally the cost of the ticket is € 8 / adult - € 6.50 / child and these are the times: Winter (25 Oct - 1 Mar): 10am - 6pm (last admission 5pm) Summer (2 Mar - 24 Oct): 9.30am - 8pm (last admission at 7pm) We would like to tell you that the walk to get to the castle is not at all sweet: with flip-flops we suffered a lot on the path, made up of large stones; and the air, despite being at the end of July, was very fresh: we strongly recommend you to equip yourself with confortable shoes, a jacket and water: the only cafeteria present was closed. After a strenuous walk, paying close attention to the signs because they are infrequent along the way, we arrived at the castle, built in the 9th century by the African Moors to protect Sintra, and which fell into ruin after the Christian conquest of Portugal. It was restored for decorative purposes by King Ferdinand II, who placed it in the setting of the gardens of the Palacio da Pena. The castle has retained the charm of an ancient ruin, surrounded by woods and ramparts, with spectacular views of Sintra!

Content: At the Palácio da Pena ticket office, we had a 10% discount thanks to the Lisboa Card! Since was almost closing time, we took the ticket for the exterior of the castle and for the park. Here are the normal prices for tickets: • Interior of the palace and park - € 14.00 • Palace and park exteriors - € 7.50 Timetables: Park: 9am - 7pm (last admission 6pm) Palace: 9.30am - 6.30pm (last admission at 6pm) To visit the terraces and ramparts, the cheapest ticket, which does not include access to the interiors, is sufficient. The Palácio da Pena stands on a hill 480 meters high, starting from an abandoned Hieronymite monastery. The majestic colorful castle was designed by a German architect who took inspiration from Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria. With bright and lively colors, in shades of yellow, blue and red, faded compared to the original color in 1996, the building was repainted in that year with the original colors. The Palace, located on a hill, it is surrounded by woods and you can see the various monuments of the Park! Yhe whole park is very large and leads to the stables, the greenhouse and many beautiful scenery surrounded by greenery: we took a quick tour of the park before the gates closing and headed to the stop for bus 434, which took us directly to the Sintra train station. In about 40 minutes we arrive in Rossio Station in Lisbon, always free thanks to the Lisboa Card.

Content: We took the metro to Oriente station, and⁸ headed to the Oceanário de Lisboa, which is located in the Parque das Nações (Park of Nations), the modern part of Lisbon. In Parque das Nações, in addition to the Oceanário de Lisboa and the gigantic Vasco da Gama shopping center, there are the Vasco da Gama tower (the tallest building in Portugal), the Altice Arena, the main venue for musical events in Lisbon, the gigantic statue of a lynx (Lince ibérico) entirely built with recycled materials, the city casino, a cable car, parks, gardens and lots of restaurants and bars!

Content: The two-floor Oceanário building sits right on the water, and revolves around a giant central aquarium. It'ss the second largest aquarium in Europe, after theValencia ome, and allows you to see animals and marine species from different oceans. The ticket price is: - € 19 for adults - € 13 for children from 4 to 12 years old - free under 4 years And the times are: - Summer: 10 am-8pm - Winter: 10am - 7pm Thanks to the Lisboa Card, we had a 15% discount! The Oceanário de Lisboa is truly spectacular and worth a visit if you are in Lisbon: in the large central tank you will find all kinds of fish: giant rays, sunfish, squares: even the great white shark! Along the guided tour we found every type of habitat based on the different oceans, and therefore penguins, otters, coral reefs and tropical fish. Even deep-sea animals such as octopus and giant crabs. Children and grown-up will love that! We strongly suggest you to visit when in Lisbon!

Content: We got our luggage we left at Luggage Home, a luggage deposit in Vasco da Gama Shopping Centre, and headed to the airport. Three metro stops from Oriente and we arrived: we headed to our gate and in 3 hours of flight we were in Naples. Our Portuguese vacation has came to an end, we feel richer, and even more willing to embark on a new adventure!
