Day 1 - 26 Jun 2021
Content: The hotel is located directly on a cliff, so you are surrounded by spectacular scenery every day. The rooms are great and the restaurant is one of the best on the island. There is an indoor and outdoor pool and also a gym. I especially liked that the hotel is run ecologically.
Day 1 - 26 Jun 2021
Content: You have to walk one kilometer to get to this viewpoint. Often the mountains are shrouded in clouds which makes a very special atmosphere. From here you can also watch birds very well.
Day 1 - 26 Jun 2021
Content: The traditional houses of Santana are a must-see when visiting Madeira. They are accessible free of charge. In the houses are small stores with handicrafts or a flower store.
Day 2 - 27 Jun 2021
Content: This levada hike is very popular. In the parking lot you are very likely to meet cows. The walk from the parking lot to the forester's lodge takes 30 minutes and then another 45 minutes to the waterfall. From the forester's lodge back to the parking lot, I recommend you take the shuttle bus and be sure to eat a delicious piece of cake beforehand.
Day 2 - 27 Jun 2021
Content: After the short hike we head towards the coast for a whale watching tour. Lobosonda offers particularly gentle and ecological tours. We have seen rare beaked whales and striped dolphins. The tour lasts about 3 hours.
Day 2 - 27 Jun 2021
Content: I have rarely eaten such a delicious pizza. Maybe you can grab a seat outside overlooking the water. Everything was just perfect there.
Day 3 - 28 Jun 2021
Content: First, you'll pass through a beautiful floral landscape until you turn the first corner. Here you will realize why you should be sure-footed and free from vertigo. Not all places are secured, so please be twice as careful. The highlight is the small tunnel, for which you need a flashlight. Once you have crossed the tunnel, you will be surprised with a beautiful waterfall that you have to walk behind.
Day 3 - 28 Jun 2021
Content: You can combine the Levada do Moinho with the Levada Nova for a circular hike. You walk not quite as high, but no less beautiful along Levada Moinho until you come to a staircase. Instead of going up the stairs, just go left and cross the small river and keep right. After a few meters you will find an idyllic picnic area with a view of a beautiful waterfall.
Day 4 - 29 Jun 2021
Content: A cool skywalker modeled after that of the Grand Canyon. The bottom is made of glass. Will you dare? The view will blow you away.
Content: Câmara de Lobos is one of the oldest fishing villages in Madeira. The name of the village translates as: Cave of the monk seal. You don't see seals here anymore. Typical are the small colorful boats in the bay. The small village was once loved by Winston Churchill. A statue of him stands at the harbor.
Day 4 - 29 Jun 2021
Content: Funchal is simply part of a visit to Madeira. For me, a day trip was enough to immerse myself in Madeira's capital. Funchal's old town is a true open-air art gallery. In 2011, artists colorfully painted front doors as part of the "Art of Open Doors" project. None is like the other, just each unique. In the neighborhood you will also find many restaurants and bars. To do in Funchal - Cable car To Monte - Visit the local market hall - Christiano Ronaldo Museum - botanical Garden
Content: Here you can find the best coffee in town in a nice atmosphere. You should definitely take a break there.
Day 5 - 30 Jun 2021
Content: A small sign along VE1 will lead you to the coast. Park at the end of the road and walk up the small hill. You will automatically come to the ruin. Again, we had everything to ourselves. The ruin itself is not a real highlight. But you can hike from here to the lighthouse Farol da Ponta de São Jorge. If the path allows it, you can continue to Ponta de São Jorge. A no longer intact wooden path once encircles the cliff. Rightly, the path was closed.
Content: Enjoying beautiful views is a regular part of vacation for me. It relaxes me and I catch myself thinking how happy these views make me every time. It must be wonderful to enjoy this view at dinner, which you can actually experience at the restaurant there. If you like, walk up a small path, quite steeply up the mountain and immerse yourself in the lush greenery that characterizes the landscape there.
Content: I could not get enough of this view with a view of the waterfall. Also a view in the other direction Seixal is beautiful. The viewpoint is well visited, which is why you will also find a small souvenir store there.
Day 5 - 30 Jun 2021
Content: The north coast of Madeira has a very varied landscape. The view Miradouro da Ribeira da Janela reminded me a bit of Iceland. There is a small viewing platform, although I found the view from below much nicer. At the parking lot, you just have to walk around the rock and you're right in front of the rock formation.
Day 5 - 30 Jun 2021
Content: Swim in the natural pools of Porto Moniz and enjoy a magnificent view. Such natural pools are very popular in Madeira. I can understand why. The water shimmers green/turquoise, you have no current, you are safe, and you have magnificent views to boot. Even for not swimming it is worth coming here. For swimming I definitely recommend shoes. You can observe many red crabs at close range.
Day 6 - 1 Jul 2021
Content: The easternmost tip of Madeira includes the Ponta de São Lourenço nature reserve. Sun envelops the beautiful barren and bizarre landscape in a great light for excellent landscape photography. The weather there is usually good, which of course are the best conditions. Start of the hike is the parking lot at the viewpoint Baía d'Abra. For the 8km hike (round trip in total) you should plan about 4 hours. Take enough to drink and food with you. Birdwatchers should not forget their binoculars. During the hike you will pass some great viewpoints. If the weather is good, you can even see as far as Santo Porto Island. At some point you will come to a house, which is like a small oasis in the landscape and surrounded by palm trees. While having a snack you can have a wonderful view to the sea or take a boat trip from here. You can use the toilets for 1 €.
Day 7 - 2 Jul 2021
Content: The third highest mountain is the Pico do Arieiro with 1818m height. You can drive up to the top by car and enjoy the view from there. It is especially beautiful at sunrise or sunset. There is a restroom and a restaurant up there, so you are welcome to stay a little longer. Most people start from here the king hike over all three mountains.
Content: At 1862m, Pico Ruivo is the highest mountain on Madeira Island and even the third highest mountain in Portugal. You can drive to the foot of the mountain by car and then venture up the path. The views are breathtaking. You float above the clouds and can see all the way to Pico do Arieiro.
Day 8 - 3 Jul 2021
Content: The fairy forest Fanal is my Madeira highlight, with a backdrop like in a movie. I have never experienced such a bizarre landscape with mystical atmosphere. You should definitely experience the area in the fog. At the parking lot you can already guess if the fairy forest is covered in smoke. Although it is very scenic there even without fog, but just the fog here makes the mood. But be careful: You shouldn't go on any great hikes in the fog, as visibility is sometimes limited to a meter and it's just way too dangerous that way. The huge laurel trees are centuries old. I would love to know what exciting stories they have to tell. The area has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, which is 100% understandable.
Day 9 - 4 Jul 2021
Content: Madeira really impressed me. I didn't expect to find such a diverse island. Madeira is really a natural paradise and a great vacation destination at any time of the year.
