Content: Drove from Zurich to Rimini on October 17. The next morning checked out San Marino.

Content: Spent maybe two hours walking around. Very pretty medieval town and fortress. San Marino is a country to explore in less than a day. Had lunch and then drove down south to Martina Franca.

Content: Took a guided tour of these caves. Very pretty. Tour runs regularly and is inexpensive. It wasn’t crowded at all, maybe because of Covid.

Content: Alberobello is a fairy tale town, full of trulli, cilindrical shaped houses with cone shaped roofs. It is very popular with tourists but in the middle of October it was not busy.

Content: Alberobello has lots of charming streets. restaurants and cafes, and of course souvenir shops. It is a bit of a tourist trap but with such charming houses it is to be expected.

Content: Locorotondo is another charming little town nearby. Visiting Puglia having a car or motorbike is essential. If you are fit and into biking the area can also be explored by bicycle.

Content: We had lunch in Locorotondo. It was also very quiet due to the season and the pandemic. It was perfect for strolling around.

Content: Dropped our kid back at the trullo and headed to I Pastini winery for a private tasting. You will need to make a reservation in advance here. The tasting was fun and educational. We learnt about local grape varietals and toured the ancient masseria on the premises. Wines were excellent and we had some small bites (olives, bread, cheese, salami) with the tasting. A fantastic experience. We bought a few bottles which we enjoyed back in Switzerland.

Content: Left junior at the trullo and drove down to visit this wine museum that also offered tastings. Lots of interesting information on wines and history of the region. Bought some more wine of course.

Content: This spot is stunning. A short walk from the road (there is an area for parking across the street) is this swimming grotto. The weather and the sea were warm enough for a swim and it was not crowded at all. I imagine in the summer this spot is super popular.

Content: On the way north we popped in to check out Castel del Monte. We didn’t have enough time for a visit as we had a long drive ahead to Bologna where we spent our last night before driving home to Zurich.
