Urbany BCN GO

Barcelona, Urbany BCN GO

Content: Welcome to Barcelona! It was my very first day of living the hostel life, and Urbany Hostel BCN GO was the perfect first choice to kick off my summer travels. This hostel is super social with two large common areas and a lot of solo travellers keen to make friends. It also has a cute rooftop space with a small plunge pool!

Plaça de Catalunya

Barcelona, Plaça de Catalunya

Content: It is time to explore Barcelona by foot, it is around a 10 minute walk to Placa de Catalunya from the hostel and here you can sit and enjoy the atmosphere, have a snack and soak up the sunshine before continuing on to your next location.

La Rambla

Barcelona, La Rambla

Content: Now onto Barcelona’s most famous street- La Rambla! This street stretches from the top of the city down to the beach and takes around 40 mins to walk the entirety of it. Along this street you can find many stores, restaurants and bars serving food and drinks all day long.

Plaça Reial

Barcelona, Plaça Reial

Content: Placa Reial is my all time fave place to grab a drink in Barcelona. This square is always bustling no matter the time of day or night. Here you can find an array of bars, restaurants and clubs. You can grab a wine or beer for around €3-€4 which you can enjoy overlooking the beautiful palm filled square. My restaurant of choice was Rei De Copes. I stayed here for an afternoon drink and then for dinner with a new friend i met online.

Content: For day 2 in Barcelona i was so excited to finally see the impressive basilica designed by Gaudi. I purchased a 10 trip pass from the metro station (from memory this was around €10) and caught the metro from my hostel to La Sagrada Familia. Before entering i needed to get an iconic photo in front of the famous landmark which is best taken from the small park that sits in front of the basilica. I decided to do the guided audio tour and pay for entry which was €27. The tour runs for around 45 mins but make sure your phone is charged and you have headphones as it runs through an app on your phone! (dont worry- they have wifi)

Bar-Terraza Ayre Rosellón

Barcelona, Bar-Terraza Ayre Rosellón

Content: I am adding this to the itinerary even though i missed out on doing this in hopes that you all will be able to pre plan better than me! The rooftop bar on top of the Ayre Rosellón Hotel has the best view in Barcelona. It sits one block away from La Sagrada Familia and has the most amazing view of the Basilica and street. This rooftop bar runs strictly on bookings only though so please be smarter than me and book ahead of time!

Content: After seeing Gaudi’s amazing work yesterday its time to see his garden creation- Park Güell. This Park runs on a timed ticketing system so make sure you select your time the day before/morning of to avoid having to wait hours out the front to get in. This park is definitely one of Barcelona’s biggest tourist attractions so if you are wanting a less crowded experience and some space to take cool photos i recommend visiting in the morning while the crowds are smaller. To get to the Park i caught the metro.

Barceloneta Beach

Content: After all of that walking around this morning its time to unwind at the beach. I caught the bus from Park Guell to Barceloneta beach where i met a friend. We called into a corner store to grab some lunch supplies and beers. Make sure you bring a speaker and some spare change as you can buy beers on the beach when you run out! (Make sure you haggle them down for price)

Barcelona, Plaça de Catalunya

Content: Next up is Tibidabo! But first i had a morning stroll around the shops and bought myself some breakfast and a coffee to start the day.

Tibidabo

Barcelona, Tibidabo

Content: Tibidabo is a spot nestled in the Barcelona hills with the best panoramic views of the city. To get here is a bit of a process- but trust me, it is worth it! and not too expensive either. I caught a metro, a funicular and a bus to get here and the whole trip up was around 50 mins. All public transport here runs super frequently and is all included on your 10 trip pass you purchased earlier.

Content: Now you’re up the hill its time to get exploring! The amusement park here is completely free to get into and has such amazing views of the city. To actually get on the rides you need to pay for a pass but i decided against this option. It was nice to sit up on top of the world and grab a bite to eat from one of the food stalls there. The amusement park is quite large and there are so many amazing photo opportunities here also!

Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

La Campana

Barcelona, La Campana
Barcelona, La Campana

Content: Make your way to La Campana metro station where you can purchase a ticket for todays day trip to Montserrat! I recommend buying a return ticket here at the metro station as the tickets online seemed to be more expensive. I paid around €25 return to get there which included the train + cable car up the mountain which is a novelty in itself.
