Content: Arrived in Stockholm in the middle of the day, took train in from airport. Checked into the Downtown Camper by Scandic. What a fun hotel! Urban camping theme. Nice family rooms that sleep four with a queen bed for parents and cool bunk beds for kids. This is an awesome hotel for families.

Content: Had poke bowls for dinner. Pretty good considering we are in Sweden not Hawaii. Fish was super fresh and veggies too.

Content: This museum is fantastic! If you do one thing in Stockholm, go visit the Vasa Museum. A sunken vessel that has been salvaged and meticulously restored, the Vasa is a work of art.

Content: We had a lot of fun at the Abba Museum. You can learn about the band, sing along songs and check out those over the top 70s costumes. This is a must for Abba fans and a good time for young and old.

Content: Kiruna is in Swedish Lapland, is above the arctic circle and is the closest airport Jukkasjärvi. We arranged with the Icehotel for a transfer from Kiruna airport.

Content: The Icehotel is unlike anywhere we have stayed before. It was the destination for our trip and staying here a special experience. Upon checkin we have received badges on lanyards that allowed us to roam the entire campus and check out all The ice rooms and sculptures.

Content: Icehotel has a large complex of rooms made of ice blocks that gets rebuilt every November and melts in the spring. There is also a building that is like a giant cooler which houses ice rooms all year around. It’s called Icehotel 360. So yes, you could visit the Icehotel all year around. We wanted to visit in the wintertime so we get to experience the building made entirely of ice.

Content: This charming little cottage that houses a restaurant is part of the Icehotel but is located a short walk outside its campus. Traditional Nordic foods including reindeer stew is on the small but delicious menu. We had a very nice dinner.

Content: Walking around Jukkasjärvi is like being in the real life version of Frozen. Clean, clear, silent, spectacular. Jukkasjärvi is one of those special places that leaves a permanent mark on your heart.

Content: Besides the Icehotel the other bucket list item we came to Lapland for was seeing the Northern Lights. We very very lucky and got to experience an amazing display of aurora borealis.

Content: This was our warm cabin at Icehotel. The hotel has cold (ice) rooms and warm cottages. They suggest you do one night in a cold room and two more nights in a warm room. Our cottage had two bedrooms, a living room, kitchenette and bath. A very cozy little cabin we could withdraw into for a respite from the cold. Breakfast was served at the lodge restaurant which is across the street from campus.

Content: We explored this open air museum dedicated to Lapland and its culture and heritage. We got to feed reindeer which was a highlight. They are very friendly animals.

Content: We headed back to the hotel and took a stroll on the frozen Tome river. Icehotel is made of ice blocks cut out from Tome river ice. You can do some snowmobiling on the ice. After the walk it was time for some drinks at the Ice Bar. In the evening we went on a tour to photograph aurora with a professional photographer but sadly could not see any because of the cloud cover.

Content: After breakfast we went on a dog sled ride. This was so much fun! Dogs are excited and eager to run and sitting on the sled under the arctic sun is just magical. We learnt a lot about mushing and sled dogs.

Content: After the dogsled adventure we went back to the Icehotel and roamed around campus including the frozen river. It was also time for afternoon cocktails at the Icebar. This was a daily pit stop for us and we have tried a different cocktail every afternoon. The drinks are served in vessels made of ice of course.

Content: After another great breakfast it was time to say goodbye to the Icehotel. We have enjoyed our stay and will hopefully come back another time.

Content: On our return stay in Stockholm we stayed at the Sheraton Stockholm hotel. It was just across the river from old town and upon arrival we had another lovely stroll.

Content: The sun set on the last day of our Northern Lights trip and the next morning we took the train to the airport and headed home.
