Content: Arrived in Zurich. Booked a night at Hotel Adler due to its perfect location, in the heart of the old town. Once you are settled in your room, you will explore the old town with its cobbled narrow streets and the main square by the river.

Content: Visit the Town Hall and the medieval churches of Grossmunster, Fraumunster and St. Peter. If you are an architecture lover, these will blow your mind! Walk along the medieval guild houses of the Limmatquai. If you prefer street food for lunch, I recommend Metzgerei Zgraggen GmbH. It is a small shop with local products that serves cheap (10 CHF) and delicious(!!) takeaway lunch.

Content: Relax and enjoy the view from Lindenhof hill.


Zürich, Bellevueplatz

Content: Walk along the promenade that starts at Bellevue and extends for 3 km down to Tiefenbrunnen.

Trattoria Sempre

Content: Have dinner at Trattoria Sempre, an Italian restaurant with several traditional Italian dishes. It is a tapas-like Italian restaurant, serving traditional dishes at a cheap price.

Content: This is going to be a long day. Rent a car - I recommend Avis and book online in advance to save some money. If you book it from the one near the city center, you can save more money. For us, they even upgraded our car for free.

Content: Drive towards St. Gallen. If you are flexible with your time, you can visit Lake Constance. Have a quick stop near the east side of the lake and enjoy the views of Switzerland, Germany and Austria.

Content: Have a few hours stop in St. Gallen and enjoy the atmosphere of an old European town. This town is quiet and serene and is filled with numerous shops and restaurants. Don’t forget to visit the Abbey Library of Saint Gall. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for a reason!

Content: Drive towards Vaduz, Liechtenstein. I strongly recommend taking the scenic road that passes through the Appenzell district. If you think about Switzerland as a road through infinite green valleys and wooden houses, then this is the place!

Content: You can drive through the whole Liechtenstein in about an hour. The views of the Alps and this quiet country makes this long day worth it. Stay focused though, a wrong turn might get you to Austria instead (as we did, oops!) Stop at Vaduz to relax and explore the small town. Visit the castle which is the residence of the Prince of Liechtenstein. Enjoy the outstanding views from the castle hill.

Content: Your final destination for today is the area of Flumserberg. And even though we have seen so many beautiful sights today, the views while driving up the mountains will make you forget everything! We booked the night at Hotel Tannenboden. The view from the glass wall of our room was divine! Being very tired, we chose to have dinner at the hotel, and the fishes from the nearby lake Walensee were delicious!

Content: Enjoy your day in Lucerne. On a sunny day, this city is full of life!! Walk around its city center that sits on Lake Lucerne, with its well-preserved medieval architecture and views of the Alps. Cross the wooden bridges of Kapellbrücke and Spreuerbrücke. Be amazed by the interior design of Jesuit Church. And finally, enjoy a meal or a drink by the lake.

Content: Lucerne is a great place to stay for the night. For us though, the day wasn’t finished. We drove to Biel/Bienne, as we would stay in a friend’s house for 2 days. Lake Biel is the eighth-largest lake in Switzerland and one of the best places to swim during the summer. And so we did. We rent SUPs (20 CHF/h) and spent the rest of the day there.

Content: Today it’s all about the capital, Bern. For me, this is the most beautiful and complete city of Switzerland! There are so many things to do there that one day is just not enough. For a day, simply explore the old town with its cobbled streets and squares lined with red-roofed sandstone buildings.


Bern, Kramgasse

Content: Walk along the Kramgasse, a street lined with the flags of the Swiss Cantons and filled with colorful and beautifully decorated Renaissance fountains. Visiting the stunning Bern Cathedral is a must!


Bern, Bärenpark

Content: Visit the BarenPark - a spacious forest-like enclosure, the residence of three brown bears, which has been the emblem of the city since the 12th century. You can then sit and enjoy a beer by the turquoise River Aare.


Bern, Rosengarten

Content: Finally, climb the hill and reach the Rose Garden. The incline walk is a bit tiring but the views are definitely worth it. Bern is a great place to stay (even for more days), but we went back to Biel/Bienne for the night.

Day 5 - 12 Jul 2021

Valley Hostel

Content: Today is the big day! Today we are visiting the heart of the Swiss Alps, the Jungfrau region. Drive to Lauterbrunnen (the drive offers some spectacular views!). We parked our car in the free parking offered by our hostel, Valley Hostel. Our room was not just value for money, but also offered a picture-postcard view of the waterfall and its surroundings!


Lauterbrunnen, Mürren

Content: Once we settled, we went to Lauterbrunnen train station. There we booked all of our cable car tickets. At first, we took the cable car to Grutschalp and then the mountain train to Murren. The small car-free village of Murren is a beautiful and peaceful alpine village to visit with panoramic views.

Content: From Murren, we took the cable car to Birg and then to Schilthorn to enjoy the views from the 2,970 m above.

Content: Then, we went back down to Birg and walked the Thrill Walk. Even though this is a “kids” playground, the adrenaline and the excitement were huge!

Content: We took the cable car to Murren and hiked along the trail to Gimmelwald. This is an easy 2 km hike that offers astonishing views of the surroundings! At Gimmelwald, we enjoyed a refreshing local beer watching the Alps at Pension Gimmelwald.

Content: We took the cable car down to the valley floor at Stechelberg. There, you can either take the bus or walk to Lauterbrunnen. The beauty of the Lauterbrunnen valley will blow your mind! This sums up the day. Have the rest of your time to relax in Lauterbrunnen.

Content: We went back to the Lauterbrunnen valley to admire its 72 waterfalls and the almighty Alps that rise from there. You can also explore the Trummelbach Falls, the waterfalls within the mountainside.

Thun, Thun

Content: Drive to the picturesque town of Thun. Enjoy this beautiful Swiss town, with its historic architecture and an enviable alpine backdrop. You can also take a boat cruise to experience Thun’s beautiful natural surroundings. After spending our afternoon in Thun, we drove back to Biel/Bienne for the night. This concludes this itinerary as the next day we fly back home.
