Day 1 - 18 Sep 2019

Lake Brienz

Content: Our first stop in Switzerland was the stunning valley of Lauterbrunnen. To reach there we decided to travel from Milan via train to Spiez. And from there another train via Interlaken. The total journey time from Milan was about 4 hours filled with stunning views of the valley as you enter the Interlaken region. You can also decide to fly in directly to Zurich and then travel to Interlaken. Or take a train from Paris too. We preferred the more scenic route via Milan but you can plan according to your other travel itinerary.

Day 1 - 18 Sep 2019

Content: We reached Lauterbrunnen and checked into our hotel. Staubuuch. This hotel is so nice and budget friendly at the same time. We booked the attic room which offers the most amazing views of the Staubuuch waterfall. After that we went for a short walk to take in the fresh and crisp mountain air.

Day 2 - 19 Sep 2019

Content: Waking up to these views from our Hotel Staubach. We had the cute attic room at the top with unhindered views.

Content: After breakfast we decided to stroll around the town of Lauterbrunnen and just soak in these views. It's a small town so you can pretty much walk about the entire town in an hour or so.

Content: The gorgeous views on the way to Murren and just outside the train station in Murren. You can either hike up from Lauterbrunnen Or take the cable car and train to Murren. We did the later and decided to hike to Gimmelwald from Murren. At Gimmelwald you can again take the cable car down to Lauterbrunnen.

Content: The hike down from Murren to Gimmelwald is filled with stunning views at each turn.

Content: On reaching Gimmelwald after a 2hour hike we decided to take a short break at the Mountain hostel with some Swiss hot chocolate and these views.

Hotel Horner

Content: Back to Lauterbrunnen for dinner. There's not many pubs in Lauterbrunnen but Horner pub right at the end of town just before the Staubach falls more than makes up for it. Great food, great beer and a great place for conversation with fellow travellers and share your travel stories from around the world.

Day 3 - 20 Sep 2019

Content: Just after breakfast this morning, we decided to explore the trails around Lauterbrunnen a bit more. It was cloudy that morning but it created this magical view.

Wengen

Content: After spending a lazy morning in Lauterbrunnen and lunch at Horner Pub we decided to spend the afternoon in Wengen. Wengen is higher up than Lauterbrunnen and provides panoramic views of the Lauterbrunnen valley from up top. You can either hike up which is pretty strenuous considering the steep climb or take a 15min train ride up to this picturesque station.

Content: Best way to explore Wengen is on foot. Pass by the church to find this gorgeous view of the Lauterbrunnen valley. You can literally spend just hours here sitting and enjoying the views and the cool breeze.

Content: We found this serene place to just and watch the trains go by from Wengen station overlooking the Lauternrunnen valley. After sunset we took the train back to Lauterbrunnen for our last night in the valley. We would be heading to Grindelwald the next day.

Content: We took a train from Lauterbrunnen to Interlaken and then a connecting train to Grindelwald early in the morning. The views from the train to Grindelwald.

Content: On reaching Grindelwald we had to take the cable car up to Bort which is where our hotel was ( all details on the hotel and how to reach there on the final page) . Some of the views from the cable car are fascinating. Mind you, getting into the cable car with all your luggage is quite a challenging task.

Content: After reaching our hotel Alpinhotel Bort and an early lunch we decided to hike down to the Grindelwald town from Bort. This hike takes about 2 hours with wonderful views of the valley.

Content: Once we reached town we decided to stroll around and explore the local shops and of course buy some Swiss chocolates.

Content: Before heading back up to the hotel in the cable car, we decided to enjoy some warm coffee at one of the local cafes in town.

Day 5 - 22 Sep 2019

Bort

Content: We woke up to this snow clad landscape outside our hotel to our pleasant surprise. The previous nights rain had made way for the snow which was quite unexpected at this time of the year. The advantages of staying at higher altitudes at Bort since the valley did not get snow.

Content: It was too good a chance to let go without playing in the snow just outside our hotel room. So we went out and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in the snow cover. It truly was like a winter wonderland.

Content: We were just lazying around on this day and i won't complain since the hotel was in such a good location. More details on the hotel on the last day.

Content: Late in the afternoon we decided to have a little picnic of our own just outside our hotel in the lawn area with some Swiss wine and chocolates.

Day 6 - 23 Sep 2019

Content: Woke up to another gorgeous sunrise at Berghaus bort.

Content: This was our last day before we left for Paris. The beauty of the location and our hotel (Berghaus Bort) meant we almost had the entire place just to ourselves away from the tourists in the main town. Although it's a steep climb from the town, cable cars run through the day and it only takes 10 mins from the town by cable car to get here with beautiful views all along. You can take the Cable Car to First from Grindelwald and get down at the intermediate stop for Bort. Trains and Cable cars in Switzerland can be quite costly so if you are planning a long stay you can also take the Swiss travel pass which covers most of the routes with some exclusions. During summer you can also drive up to Bort if you are planning to take a rental car, but the roads are steep and narrow. After strolling around and taking some more pictures we had our breakfast and unwillingly had to bid our goodbyes to this stunning Swiss village. We took the cable car down to Grindelwald and then a train to Interlaken to connect to our final train to Paris.
