Content: Arrive in Zurich. Hire a car - I recommend AutoEurope and to book online in advance for the best deals. Take the scenic ride from the airport to your accommodation of choice. We chose and Airbnb due to the freedom of having our own space for cooking and cleaning. The scenery in Switzerland will blow you away!

Content: Once you are settled in your apartment, use the public transport system in Switzerland to get to the centre of Zurich for a stroll around this stunning city. Stop for dinner and try cheese fondue - a favourite dish in Switzerland. Your cheese fondue will come with bread and other meat / veggie options for you to dip into the melting cheese. It really is delicious and you must try. We chose this restaurant for the value for money after seeing the menu online. The place also receives awesome reviews and it was so worth it. This will set you back around 30 CHF per person.

Content: Stop for a drink or two in the local bar. This city is full of local students who spend their nights partying away. Zurich is well known for its night life and there are many bars and restaurants to choose from.

Content: Exploring the main area of Zurich is a wonderful activity. There are some night walking tours you can book or you can do it on your own. This is the main square in Zurich. There is lots to do here in this historic centre.

Content: In the middle of Zurich is the Limmat River and then surrounded is this old church and many guild houses. This church is open everyday from 10am to 6pm. We liked the way it reflected off the river at night. It really is stunning to walk around the river at night. It's also a basis for cheap drinks if you are in a party mood.

Content: Another beautiful spot in Zurich. Zurich is a safe city, and in fact there is no no-go area, even for single travellers at night. As a visitor you are unlikely to face any problems if you simply use common sense. Of course some petty crime does exist. But mostly the city is super safe.

Content: End your night at this awesome bar. There is a very good atmosphere and awesome drinks service. If you are not into alcohol then the place serves coffee too. On your way out, remember to stop at this love lock bridge. There are so many padlocks and names scrolled on them from years gone by. It's super romantic.

Content: If you haven't heard of this lake before then you are missing out. This is a must stop on your journey. The Walensee, also known as Lake Walen or Lake Walenstadt from Walenstadt, is one of the larger lakes in Switzerland. Perfect for a hike, swim or just walk around.

Content: Not exactly in Switzerland, but this country is so small and so close to Switzerland why not include it on the road trip. Home to about 38,000 people, it's the fourth-smallest and the second-least-visited country in Europe. With an area of only 62 square miles, it's nearly eight times smaller than the city of Los Angeles. It has virtually zero national debt, and the per capita GDP is the second-highest in the world. Liechtenstein's only billionaire is worth half the country's GDP.

Content: Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, sits on the Rhine River near the Swiss border. On a hillside overlooking the town, Vaduz Castle dates back to the 12th century and is a royal family residence. Wander through Vaduz which is eerily quiet. Grab some lunch here too as you might not get a chance on the way.

Content: An old bridge connecting Switzerland to Liechtenstein. Cross over between the two countries as you please for free. This has survived for many many years and it was actually used for horses to come back an forth through to Liechtenstein.

Content: Where the prince of Liechtenstein and his family live. They host annual parties for all the locals of Liechtenstein. You cannot enter inside the castle because it is off limits. However, you can view outside the castle and park for free.

Content: Stop for the night in this pretty town of Buchs - mostly German speaking people live here. This picture shows the traditional town which still stands to this day and dates back to the 17th century when Vikings used to roam the land of Switzerland.

Content: At the top of the hill in Werdenberg, there is a beautiful castle with magnificent fairytale views. A fee is necessary to enter the castle or you can just enjoy the views from the outside.

Content: This historical Viking town is called Werdenberg and looks like something from a theme park. People actually live in these tourist attraction buildings and have done for hundreds of years.

Content: Next stop is this pretty cool viaduct which is built in-between two mountains. Entry is free, and to reach this point, it is about half an hour by foot from the car park which is also free.

It's one of a kind here. Tip - get petrol when you can! As there aren't may when you get onto passes like these.

Content: From a distance we saw this lake, and it wasn't a place I had saved but we stopped anyway as it was just so beautiful to see. Tip - save time on your trip for spontaneous stops like this one so you don't miss out on what Switzerland has to offer.

Content: As we got closer, the weather changed slightly to give this cloudy look - which made an epic photo! There is parking available here - lots of it. It's a great spot for campervans as there is a huge restaurant and rest room for use.

Content: Book this activity in advance to avoid disappointment on the day as it can get booked up quickly. A trip on the Gelmerbahn is an experience like no other, with a turquoise mountain lake awaiting you after the rattling 12-minute trip backwards up the mountain. With a gradient of 106 per cent, it is undoubtedly the steepest passenger funicular railway in Europe. Originally built to transport building material weighing several tonnes, this technological masterpiece now offers an unforgettable rail experience. Once you have reached the top, we recommend a tour around the wild, romantic Lake Gelmer or a hike up to the Gelmerhütte. Prices are 32 CHF per person, return.

Content: Get on the funicular straight up to the Gelmersee - it's an activity not to be missed! Sit at the front of the cart for the best views.

Content: Walking around the Gelmersee will take around 3 hours or you can brave a dip like we did. The temperature of the water was definitely minus because remember you are really high up a mountain, but it was so refreshing.

Content: On your way around the Gelmersee, you will see a waterfall too! We took a drink of water straight from this waterfall and it tasted so fresh.

Content: Get back on the Gelmersee to go back down the mountain - OUR FAVOURITE PART! We sat right at the front which was super scary but worth it for the experience and these cool shots.

Content: Drive to your accommodation for the night. We decided to stay just outside Interlaken in this traditional villiage called Frutigen. Our host couldn't have been more welcoming and we had everything we needed for a nights sleep. Our host also showed us these cool tickets which you can request for free online. These get you access to lots of attractions for a reduced price. Worth checking out if you are deciding to do lots of paid activities.

Content: Long drive to the picturesque town of Lauterbrunnen. Before you continue with the day, grab lunch in this town as you may not get a chance to on the hike you are about to do. There are many parking spots available here however, you must a fee per hour. About Lauterbrunnen Lauterbrunnen is situated in one of the most impressive trough valleys in the Alps, between gigantic rock faces and mountain peaks. With its 72 thundering waterfalls, secluded valleys, colourful alpine meadows and lonely mountain inns, the Lauterbrunnen Valley is one of the biggest nature conservation areas in Switzerland.

Content: Take a stroll through the town of Lauterbrunnen until you come to this magnificent waterfall. This waterfall is famous all around the world. With a height of nearly 300 meters, Staubbach Falls is the third highest waterfall in Switzerland. In the summer warm winds swirl the waters around, so that the Falls spray in all directions. These droplets of water spray gave the brook and the waterfall its name. (Staub = dust)

Content: Walk the hiking pathway just past the waterfall which will take you to another town. Stop at this cool vending machine in the valley which offers fresh cheese and milk from the local farms. Cash only.

Content: This is the peak you want to see! One of the highest peak in all of Switzerland which shows snow all year round - Jungfrau. This mountain should be hiked only by experienced hikers. You can take a train here for an expensive price, called the top of Europe ticket.

Content: Different from Grindelwald - which is a famous village in Switzerland. This traffic-free village hangs nonchalantly on the edge of a cliff, high above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, 30 minutes south of Interlaken by car or train. From Gimmelwald, you can ride the modern gondola up the Schilthorn if you like. A 10,000-foot peak capped by a revolving restaurant called Piz Gloria. Lifts go twice hourly, involve two transfers, and take 30 minutes.

Content: This is a day for exploring interlaken town before you drive back to Zurich to catch your flight. Content: Visit Interlaken lake called Lake Thun - you could spend all day here really. The water is so beautiful and there are boats you can take, you can go for a swim or just wander around and take in the peaceful nature. On the other side is Lake Brienz - two very similar blue lakes. Swimming, splashing around and jumping into the water is an unforgettable experience anywhere in Interlaken.

Content: The last attraction before you travel back to Zurich for your flight home. Harder Kulm is a viewing platform many metres above sea level and you can see the whole of Interlaken and surrounding mountains. Harder Kulm can be reached by funicular from Interlaken. The ride takes about 10 minutes. The valley station is located close to the railway station of Interlaken Ost and can be reached in a 5-minute walk. Tickets are 34 CHF return per person.
