Content: Starting the trip in Vancouver, we drove to the BC ferries Horseshoe Bay Terminal located in West Vancouver. It’s best to arrive at least an hour in advance (more on weekends), or you can reserve your spot on the ferry at bcferries.com. We brought our own snacks and had a little picnic up on the deck.

Coombs, Old Country Market - Goats on Roof

Content: On the way to Tofino, you can stop at the famous goats on the roof market. Yes, there’s literally goat on the roof! And the market is so cute. Totally worth the stop!

Kennedy Lake

Alberni-Clayoquot, Kennedy Lake

Content: Along the highway to Tofino, you pass by Kennedy Lake. There’s a few places you can stop and hang out by the lake, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Currently, they are doing construction on the road, and it’s closed from 11am-3pm during the week, but be sure to check tourismtofino.com for up to date information.

Content: When I’m camping in Tofino, Bella Pacifica is my go to place. It’s a gorgeous campground right on McKenzie beach with showers and laundry, and each site has a fire pit for a cozy little fire.

Content: Tofino also has an amazing hostel. I’ve stayed there multiple times in the past and I love it so much! Although this time we chose to camp instead of stay in the hostel, the hostel is a great option especially in the rainy months so I figured I’d include it.

Day 2 - 17 Apr 2021

Rhino Coffee House

Tofino, Rhino Coffee House

Content: For breakfast, went to this amazing little cafe in Tofino, which is conveniently right across the street from the surf rental shop. They have amazing grab and go food, coffee and donuts. 10/10 best spot to grab breakfast in Tofino.

Pacific Surf Co.

Tofino, Pacific Surf Co.
Tofino, Pacific Surf Co.

Content: I love to rent from Pacific! Their prices are good (cheaper than other places I’ve rented in the past) and the shop is so cute. The staff are so friendly and will help you get set up with whatever board and wetsuit you need. They also have a little chalkboard of the wave forecast and the best beach! (If it’s not up, just ask!)

Chesterman Beach

Tofino, Chesterman Beach
Tofino, Chesterman Beach

Content: We surfed at Chesterman as it was the best waves for our skill level. I also love Chesterman because the walk from the parking lot to the beach is less than a minute (unlike the long walk to Cox Bay) and it’s a long gorgeous beach with plenty of space for everyone if it’s busy. Just be careful on the north end of the beach there are some big rocks that are sometimes submerged just below the water depending on the tides.

Tacofino

Tofino, Tacofino

Content: After a full day of surfing, Tacofino is a MUST. This little food truck is world famous and has some of the best Tacos. It’s a must during the Tofino experience. I was too busy eating my taco to take a picture of the food truck.

Content: Tofino Brewery is another must visit while in Tofino. It’s just on the way into town, and you can get a flight (4 little beers) to sample beers of your choice, or a pint of your favourite!

Shelter Restaurant

Tofino, Shelter Restaurant

Content: Shelter restaurant is another great place to go, and we went here for dinner. Our server was amazing and super friendly, and the drinks and food were incredible. I was too busy enjoying my delicious cocktail to remember to take a photo of the food, but my friend snapped this one of my cheesing.

Content: This cute little walk through the forest takes you to a beautiful secluded beach. A great spot for hanging out and very picturesque. There was mist coming off the ocean while we were there, it was very cool!

The Hatch Waterfront Pub

Tofino, The Hatch Waterfront Pub

Content: On this trip we actually went back to Shelter, but I’ve been to the Hatch before and it’s an amazing restaurant right down by the Marina with an incredible atmosphere. Definitely worth checking out!

Cox Bay Beach

Content: When the waves are small everywhere else, Cox Bay is the place to go. The walk from the parking lot is a bit of a pain, so bring anything you might need to the beach in one trip. It was foggy and cold when we got there but then it burned off and became a beautiful beach day!

BC Ferries Departure Bay Terminal

Nanaimo, BC Ferries Departure Bay Terminal

Content: We reserved a spot on the ferry home so that we didn’t have to wait as long. Be sure to still show up more than 30 minutes before the sailing time or you will lose your reservation.
