Day 1 - 23 May 2019
Content: Started our journey with a 9 hour Delta airlines flight from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to El Dorado Luis Carlos Galan Sarmiento International Airport. Cleanest airport we have ever seen, airport was well organised and easy to navigate.
Content: Rented a car for entire journey from the airport car rental services and took a 20 min drive to our hotel where we checked-in. Great location with tons of amenities, rooms were clean and huge and staff was phenominal.
Content: Dropping off our luggage we took a 10 min drive to a local colombian restaurant where we had our dinner. Experienced traditional food with best diverse ingredients from Colombia, service was great and price were reasonable.
Day 2 - 24 May 2019
Content: We decided to spend our first day exploring the capital city of Colombia. We took a 15 min drive to our first destination for the day. Museo Nacional de Colombia is a national museum of Colombia, beautiful museum with incredible history of Colombia, artifacts are very well organised.
Content: Bolivar Square is a square surrounded by historic buildings, such as the palace of justice. In the past it was used for circus, bullfight and many other activities. Great place to click photos, place is surrounded by street performers.
Content: Visited a local restaurant near to Bolivar Square. Ordered a popular Colombian dish which is ajiaco and Tamels, both were perfectly filled and well cooked. Price was bit on a higher side.
Content: Gold museum is a place which exhibits the rich history of Columbian people. Extra ordinary museum with gold work, replicas are available for sale at affordable price. Audio guided tour is highly recommended.
Content: Museo Botero is a art museum located near to Gold museum. Beautiful museum with a fantastic array of Botero paintings and sculptures. We were lucky enough to see the change of guard ceremony.
Day 3 - 25 May 2019
Content: After breakfast, taking a 15 min drive we reached Paloquemao market which is a well known farmer's market. It was well organised with wide range of products and eatables, we took a tour to fruit, flower and meat market. Explore the place before buying as there are different price range available in the premises.
Content: Taking a 20 min drive to a restaurant for our lunch before heading towards Senor de Monserrate Basilica. A modern fusion restaurant with multiple combination dishes, Best place to dine without a doubt.
Content: Senor de Monserrate Basilica is a Catholic basilica located at the top of Monserrate hill dedicated to the Fallen Lord Christ. We took a cable car and reached to the top. Place is well maintained and garden is lively. View from top is breathtaking, not recommended for fainted heart.
Content: Museum Quinta Bolivar is a colonial house which served as residence of Simon Bolivar, it is now converted in to a museum. Beautiful place with great architecture surrounded by nature. A place loaded with history of Simon Bolivar and a glimpse how he used to live.
Day 4 - 26 May 2019
Content: In the morning had a healthy breakfast and took a 20 min drive towards El Dorado Luis Carlos Galan Sarmiento International Airport from where we boarded a 2 hour Avianca flight to Aeropuerto International Alfredo Vasquez Cobo, Leticia. Modern airport but not much flight options were available.
Day 4 - 26 May 2019
Content: After landing at the airport took a short ferry to Calanoa Natural Reserve where we checked-in to Calanoa Lodge. It is the only accommodation available in Amazon. Cabins were well equiped, interior was decent, considering the place staff was less but very efficient.
Content: Dropping off our luggage we had our lunch at the lodge itself considering our special requirement they cooked food for us of our choice.
Content: Spent our day resting at the lodge. In the evening we joined a guided tour to Calanoa Natural Reserve, where we saw nocturnal animal, nocturnal animals are the ones which are active at night. Guide were very knowledgeable and kind, they took us deep in the forest to observe activities of nocturnal animals.
Day 5 - 27 May 2019
Content: It was a day loaded with activities so we started our morning with a short walk to visit Tikuna Indigenous Community with our guide and experienced their culture. Further we had a short hike with the guide and gained some knowledge about some natural medicine that we found in the forest of Amazon.
Content: After exploring the forest, community and the medicinal plants we boarded a Canoe which is a small boat and returned back sailing through Matamata Gorge.
Content: Had our dinner, they served us herbal soup found from local plants which was delicious. Staff was very caring and always ready to fulfill our requirements.
Day 6 - 28 May 2019
Content: Started our sunny morning with a quick breakfast and short canoe ride to Vista Alegre where we met our guide and begin our hike to amazon rain forest. This forest is dense and offers amazing views with lots of creatures, it is very much challenging. Prefer going to forest with a local person or guide.
Content: Taking a short boat ride reached to our next destination for today which was Island of Mocagu, the best place to discover unique flora and pink Dolphins.
Content: Returning back from island had a BBQ dinner with other mates and owner of the lodge. The food was delicious and service was amazing, an evening well spent enjoyed the music and dance.
Day 7 - 29 May 2019
Content: With a quick bite, we headed towards forest for bird spotting, our guide took us to some dedicated spots to explore different species of birds in amazon. They were super friendly and knowledgeable.
Content: With a short boat ride we returned back to Aeropuerto International Alfredo Vasquez Cobo, Leticia from where we boarded a 2 hour Avianca Airlines flight to El Dorado Luis Carlos Galan Sarmiento International Airport. The flight was smooth.
Day 7 - 29 May 2019
Content: Taking a 10 min drive from airport reached our hotel located nearby airport where we checked-in for our night stay for today. Front desk staff was very helpful and hotel was exceptionally clean and comfortable. Airport pickup shuttle facility was available.
Content: Dropping of our luggage and had a quick hot water bath we took a short drive to an authentic Italian restaurant for our dinner. Excellent service given by manager, food took little longer to arrive but taste was pretty good then we expected.
Day 8 - 30 May 2019
Content: Skipping our breakfast we headed towards El Dorado Luis Carlos Galan Sarmiento International Airport from where we boarded a 11 hour Air Canada flight to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Check-in took some more time then we expected, flight was comfortable and leg room was adequate.
