Day 1 - 27 Dec 2021
Content: As we arrived quite late in the evening (around 5.30 pm) it was best to stay for one night in Cancun before heading to Isla Cozumel. We had chosen Kavia hotel because it was close to the Ado bus station. The Ado bus is a very good and cheap way to travel around in Mexico.
Day 2 - 28 Dec 2021
Content: This beach club was located right across the street of our hotel. We had some refreshing drinks there and a snack. You could go swimming from the terrace into the sea! Watching the pelicans landing quite close to us was a treat.
Day 2 - 28 Dec 2021
Content: Next to cruise port you can visit the main city: San Miguel de Cozumel. You will find a lot of shops & bars/restaurants as well. We were looking for a car rental. Look at the picture what kind of car we found. It was a convertible but we didn’t even had a rear view mirror 😱The best advice I can give you is to take full insurance!
Day 2 - 28 Dec 2021
Content: The walk near the seaside was amazing! Especially great when watching the sunset. Great places to eat along the way and very cute bars.
Day 2 - 28 Dec 2021
Content: This restaurant was recommended to me by a local. Such a great place! The food was delicious and you had an amazing sunset view as well.
Day 3 - 29 Dec 2021
Content: In the afternoon we visited one of the best public beaches on the island. Funny extra are the cute raccoons that live here. The bar with the terrace next to the beach was good. It’s also a good place to start a snorkelling trip to El Cielo, Palancar & Colombia reef.
Day 3 - 29 Dec 2021
Content: Located at the most southern point of Cozumel you find Punta Sur. Great place to spot the ocean and you can also find the entrance there to the ECO Beach Park. The park closes at 4 pm. So we arrived too late to enter the Beach Park. We came back the next day!
Day 3 - 29 Dec 2021
Content: Beautiful view point along the road! It’s like the name says: a beautiful view on the ocean.
Day 3 - 29 Dec 2021
Content: In the evening we dined out on the rooftop terrace of our hotel. Sereno is one of the best restaurants on the island. You have a beautiful view on the ocean and the sunset. The signature cocktails are delicious!
Day 4 - 30 Dec 2021
Content: Next day we went back to visit the Eco Beach park at Punta Sur. This beautiful eco park is the habitat for a variety of birds but it’s biggest inhabitants are without any doubt the crocodiles. From upon the view tower you get a good overview. Tip: take your binoculars with you!
Content: The lighthouse is also nice to visit! You can climb up the tower to have a beautiful view on the ocean and the park, good place to spot birds as well!
Day 4 - 30 Dec 2021
Content: On day 4 we took the ferry back from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen. From there the Ado bud to Tulum. LiveTulum was a nice vintage hotel. We had a room with direct access to the pool. The location was great too. Around the corner there’s a bike rental (don’t rent bikes at the hotel). It’s located in Tulum pueblo but easy to bike to the beach, nearby cenotes and Tulum Ruins. In Tulum pueblo you find the best places to eat (see day 5 & 6)
Day 5 - 31 Dec 2021
Content: Perfect breakfast! This place I would highly recommend to you. It’s a very trendy place and the food is amazing. And the prices are really cheap for what you get!
Content: A visit to Tulum ruins is absolutely fabulous! At the entrance you will meet the cutest coati’s , the ruins are located very close to the beach what makes the views amazing. The entrance was only 80 Mexican pesos!
Content: This cenote was amazing! Got out of my comfort zone and just jumped in! Inside the cave there were some bats 🦇 it was a great experience and so refreshing!
Content: This cenote has a nickname too: car wash (because the Mexicans used to stop here to use the water to wash their car). No cars allowed anymore. Did you know there’s a crocodile living in the cenote? Didn’t see it but while snorkelling there I saw a turtle swimming! The place is not very known yet. So no crowds there.
Content: The best place to grab a burrito! We had to queue the first evening but came back a day later and got a table immediately! Here we spend our New Years dinner starting with delicious guacamole and a margarita of course 🎉
Day 6 - 1 Jan 2022
Content: Beach time. Great place to have breakfast right in front of the beach.
Content: We would have had breakfast but it was closed. Raw love cafe on the beach is a must visit!
Content: Enjoying a lazy day at the beach. This beach club was at least affordable. At some clubs you needed to pay 1000 $ for a lounge bed! The drinks were good and so was the food and atmosphere.
Day 7 - 2 Jan 2022
Content: As we couldn’t have breakfast in Raw Love at the beach, we decided to have breakfast in Raw love pueblo. All vegan and really delicious!
Day 7 - 2 Jan 2022
Content: Top place to visit! This cenote is about a 40 minutes drive from Tulum. We took the colectivo to get there. It’s a very cheap way to travel around in Mexico. Most vans are quite comfortabel and have airco. We loved the beautiful clear water here and some more thrills when jumping into the water.
Day 7 - 2 Jan 2022
Content: Akumal is definitely worth a visit! One of my bucket-list things to do was swimming with sea turtles! Here my dream came true!
Day 8 - 3 Jan 2022
Content: Good place to stay, close to the lake and city center. The room was clean and we had a good breakfast in the morning.
Content: Best place to eat in Bacalar and spend an afternoon at the lake. We were unlucky with the weather so we couldn’t visit Los Rapidos or Cocalitos. These are two must visit places in Bacalar.
Content: Visiting the city center of Bacalar. There’s an old fort to visit and some shops in the center. The I scream bar is also a good place for a drink.
Content: Doing some kayaking despite the bad weather. With the sun shining on the water the colors get so beautiful.
Day 9 - 4 Jan 2022
Content: Great hotel to stay. Definitely one of the best in Valladolid. The decorations are so beautiful and the staff is very friendly. Breakfast is simply delicious!
Content: Best place to go for a cheap snack or lunch. It’s located right next to the main square park!
Content: The historical center of Valladolid is absolutely worth a visit! As it’s more in the inner country the atmosphere is more authentic. Take a walk through the park as well! Don’t forget to go for an ice cream at Wabi gelato 🍧 it’s the best in the city!j
Content: Very good Mexican restaurant! Try to book a table outside.
Content: Perfect to eat as a dessert: the famous MARQUESITAS! Try it with Nutella and banana, so yummy 🤤
Day 10 - 5 Jan 2022
Content: One of the most beautiful cenotes near Valladolid, you can easily take a taxi to visit this cenote. Upon arrival you need to take a shower (for your sunscreen) and wear a life jacket but for the pictures you can take it off. Tip: visit as early as possible to avoid the crowd
Day 10 - 5 Jan 2022
Content: This World wonder you can’t miss when visiting Valladolid. These Mayan ruins are a must visit. I would recommend you to take a guide as they can tell you all the interesting facts you need to know. There are a lot of selling stalls on the yard, a bit too much.
Day 10 - 5 Jan 2022
Content: Don’t miss out on the most beautiful street of Valladolid. You have some good restaurants there and lovely shops!
Content: Great Italian restaurant. Beautiful terrace, live music and the food is amazing. It’s an Italian cook who makes the dishes. If you order a pizza don’t take a large one (or only to share) as these are really big!
Day 11 - 6 Jan 2022
Content: Celebrating 6th of January at the hotel. Of course we took a piece of the ‘three kings’ cake but no luck. The breakfast was delicious 🤤
Content: The second oldest convento in Mexico. Great historical information and nice surroundings.
Content: This cenote was located in the center of Valladolid. Unfortunately we couldn’t swim in it because of restoration works. These should be finished by next April.
Day 12 - 7 Jan 2022
Content: Last day in Mexico. We took the Ado bus back to Cancun (about 4 hours drive) mind the hour difference between Valladolid & Cancun (+1). From Cancun another bus went to the airport. Arrive in time as it goes slowly for checking in. Tip: go to the printers and print your luggage tags yourself.
