Day 1 - 24 Apr 2018
Content: We planned to celebrate our anniversary on the impressive island of Saint Lucia. We enjoy every day in the wonderful isle of Saint Lucia. We took a long-haul flight from London to Saint Lucia. We landed at Hewanorra Airport, which is the largest in the country. Saint Lucia has two airports: The George Charles Airport located in the capital city of Castries, and Hewanorra International Airport located in the southern town of Vieux Fort. Both are well-connected by transportation. Taxies are easily available just outside the terminal. The country draws travellers from all over the world with its beauty. While St. Lucia is known as a honeymooner’s paradise, but also it is a perfect destination for adventure lovers.
Content: We hired a taxi to Gros Islet and checked into the Sandals Grande St. Lucian. Gros Islet, a small town found in the north-west corner of St. Lucia, overlooking the horseshoe-shaped Rodney Bay. We arrived at the hotel entrance where staff with a lovely smile greeted us. She offered a cool welcome drink. It was a beautiful property that offered various types of rooms. They offered a beautiful room with stunning views and comfy beds. The pools and surroundings were very clean and neat. Over-the-Water Honeymoon Butler Bungalow is their featured one. The rooms are decorated luxuriously with wooden floorings. They offered an intimate connection to the Caribbean Sea. We enjoyed fresh Caribbean breezes and spend the rest of the time.
Content: They offered an extraordinary dining experience. The Bay-side Restaurant offered a very unique experience with their Caribbean cuisine. They set an open-air eatery overlooking the pool. Their seafood platter was awesome, we had Grilled Snapper. The taste and aroma were good.
Day 2 - 25 Apr 2018
Content: We had breakfast from the hotel and headed to explore the most vibrant part of the country. They offered a wide variety of dishes as a complimentary breakfast. The restaurant was great with a classy ambiance. The dishes presented in their buffet was great in taste and presentation. Both Caribbean and continental was presented.
Content: We walked towards Pigeon Island which was located near to the hotel. We decide to spend a whole on the island. We felt vibrant while we enter the place. We walked into with full of expectations. It was a perfect place to host wedding events with a beach view. We purchased a park entry ticket at the entrance that gave access to everything in the park. From a local guide, we learned about the history of the place. It is better to choose a tour plan for anyone who stays somewhere else.
Content: We started hiking the first hill up to the Fort Rodney. It was cool and comfortable through the grassland. We walked through the meadow and arrived at a platform overlooking Rodney Bay. The beautiful views alone are not to be missed. We soaked into the panoramic scenery. Then we keep hiking up some more to the top of the hill. We could see the best view of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Caribbean Sea on the other side. We saw the clear lush mountains of St Lucia. The hike to the second peak was more difficult than the first one. The hike towards Fort Rodney was short and easy whereas the second one was steeper. At the lower fort, we climbed down into the gun powder room. The hike down to the base was quite good. We enjoyed the hike. Visit Military Ruins
Content: We saw many Military Ruins on the way to climb up to the hill. We saw US Signal Station, Gun Slide, Musket Redoubt, and Ridge Battery. We explore many 18th Century Military Ruins to understand the history. On the way back down to the hill, we saw landmarks such as- Soldiers Barracks, Military Latrine, Powder Magazine, etc. These were used during the battles between the French and the British. We took many photos on the backdrop. We could check out the informational signs along the way for lots of important details.
Content: We walked to a restaurant for lunch. There are two restaurants on the Island. We had lunch from Jambe De Bois which was quite busy. Friendly staff offered outdoor seating. The food was average in taste. The service was excellent.
Content: We spend the remaining time of the day on the shore of the beach. We scheduled a photoshoot session on the beach. It was a very beautiful location of romantic as well as memorable photography. The white sand beach with calm and pleasant water made the spot more attractive. We relaxed for hours by dipping our feet in the water. Then we moved back to the resort and dinner.
Day 3 - 26 Apr 2018
Content: After breakfast from the hotel, we rented a car to explore Soufriere. It is better to self-drive if you love to travel alone. Diving in St. Lucia is a bit easy with google maps. We followed google map to Tet Paul Nature Trail. It was the perfect place for nature lovers to connect very close with nature. It was an easy trail and the most popular one. It was better to start as early as it open. Morning time was very suitable for taking great photos. We parked at the entrance and found the ticket counter in a walkable distance. We got a professional guide, who was very friendly and knowledgeable about the place.
Content: We walked through the steep pathway enjoying magnificent views. It was a place packed with numerous exotic trees and plants. We could saw the view of Mt Gimie. It was the highest peak in the country. Along the way, many pineapple plants were grown. We could smell the aroma of some medicinal plants. Our guide spotted some baby pineapple plants near the trail. Then we slowly climbed a stair which was named Stairway to Heaven. The entire stairs were made up naturally by roots and branches. From the top, we could see an incredible view of Petit Piton. Our guide was so sweet and informative, he showed every point in the hike. We completed the entire hike at a relaxed pace. It was an exceptional experience, we took many amazing photos.
Content: Then we drove towards Sulphur Springs. It was the only drive-in volcano in Caribbean. It was located at a short distance away from the road. We parked our car and purchased an entry ticket. Then we passed through the barrier. The environment was filled with a very dense smell of rotten-eggs actually, it was the smell of Sulphur. We reached the Interpretation Centre, where we learned about the place and its history. They exhibit some facts and figures about the place. The model of the Soufriere area with the Piton Mountains was an impressive one. We got trilled and excited to explore the volcano area.
Content: We passed some souvenir shops that led us to a stair. From the top, we could see active thermal pools. The walk around area was pretty good, the way was not flat but accessible. It was the most active area in the entire country. We could spot some orange-brown walls, it is due to a massive amount of iron oxides. Near to a cashew tree, we saw a clear picture of bubbling water in pits. The land is too hot and water from small streams was also hot. Then we walked along with a local guide to experience a mud bath. We changed our dress and dip into one of the pools. It was the best way to cleanse ourselves in the lap of nature. Then our body was coated with smooth mud and stood in the sun to dry. We literally felt like an Ayurvedic spa treatment. The guide said that it was very good for the skin as the mud and water contain medicinal values. It was worth visiting the place.
Content: On the way back we saw the UNESCO World Heritage sign with Petit Piton in the background. We took some pictures and moved further in search of lunch. We drove slowly through the narrow streets and spotted a yellow building. There is no separate parking space, so parked on the street. It was the ideal restaurant to experience local foods. We had creole chicken, they served the hot and delicious chicken with vegetables. Sandwich and hamburgers are also available on their menu. We tasted hot pepper sauce, which was placed on each table.
Content: After lunch, we headed to explore another major attraction in the country. Diamond Falls was located very close to the city. It was one of the oldest Botanical Gardens. We parked our car at the entrance and moved into the Garden. We could feel the fresh air surrounded by tropical plants and flowers. We walked through the main trail that led us to the hot mineral bath. We walked further passing around the pools that led us to the main sight. We found a beautiful waterfall that changes its colour due to the presence of minerals. We spend some time enjoying the crashing sound of the water. On the way, we saw many beautiful flowers such as wax rose and lobster-claws.
Day 4 - 27 Apr 2018
Content: We started our day at Rodney Bay, which was packed with coffee houses, restaurants, bars, and clubs. It was a very lively place in the country. We could feel the very commercial environment around us.We had breakfast from a hotel. They offered many dishes in their buffet. The taste was good.
Content: A beautiful spot that allowed us to explore and connect man with nature. Gros Piton trail a famous natural trail in the city. The hike can also be started from the Anse L’Ivroigne beach, a beautiful secluded bay at the base of the Piton. The road towards the Gros Piton was narrow with crazy turns. We arrived at the edge where Fond Gens Libre, a small village. We parked our car and purchased a ticket from the office. Then a guide accompanied us for the hike. He first stopped at the Interpretational centre. We walked through the steep rocks that lead us up to the mountain. The guide said that the real hike was going to start from the gate. That gate was marked as an official entrance to Ay Poye Park at the foot of the Gros Piton. The entire pathway was packed with trees and big rocks. We felt very fresh and energetic while starting the hike. We walked through the rocky path to the first resting point. We took a rest for a while to rehydrate. The next part of the hike was more challenging as the path was covered with more rocks. At some points, the guide advised us to climb slowly as the path was too steep. We could find some benches to rest on the way. Some benches are made up of branches and sticks under a giant mango tree. Finally, we reached the point. The view was mind-blowing with the sound of the breeze. We took many photos and spend some time enjoying ourselves.
Content: We walked back to the parking area. Our legs were tired but the atmosphere helped us to climb down. The cool breeze was so refreshing. The view while climbing down was incredibly beautiful. Our breath was truly raised up when we saw an ice cream stand. We had some homemade fresh ice cream. After that, we slowly walked towards our car.
Content: We drove to the next destination which was located very close. We stopped at a point to park the car, then walked towards the waterfront. We asked a boat driver about the activities. He showed a list of prices for boat tours to various locations. We talk to some drivers and found one who was professional in explaining. He offered a trip to Anse Chastanet and Anse Mamin for a reasonable price. He took us to a motorboat to show all the amazing views around. We could spot a small cave, home for bats. Anse Chastanet is a black sand beach located right under Jade Mountain Resort. He pointed to a beautiful sight of Piton Mountains, which the best part of the ride. Then we return to our car and headed to a restaurant.
Content: We had dinner at Dasheene Restaurant at Ladera Resort. They offered delicious dinner in a great ambiance. The menu had varieties of options but a little costly. The staffs were polite and friendly. Next day we started to airport early in morning and board a flight back to our home town. The trip was entirely unique experience.
