Content: Drive back down to Cairns to catch the 8am ferry to Fitzroy Island where you will spend the day and return on the 5pm ferry. The ferry ride is approximately an hour and is $89 return pp.

Content: Spend the day relaxing at Nudey Beach, snorkelling in the crystal blue water. Nudey Beach won the title of #1 beach in Australia in 2019 and it’s not hard to see why. The coral that surrounds the island makes it a great spot to snorkel. There is also the option to do a glass bottom boat tour if you’d like to see the coral and various marine life, whilst remaining dry.

Content: Spend time amongst the Palm trees, where you will find ample photo opportunities. The reserve is open to the public but be careful of falling coconuts as we saw two fall off a tree as we were standing there.

Content: Road trip back down south to the Atherton tablelands to complete the waterfall circuit, which takes approximately 15 minutes to drive around. You can enjoy a swim at the large base of Millaa Millaa falls. Whilst all three falls were beautiful, Millaa Millaa was definitely the favourite for us.

Content: Today is spent doing a day trip to Cape Tribulation, something that is a must do if you’re in FNQ. After you cross the Daintree River on a ferry that you take your car on, your first stop should be Alexandra Lookout. The ferry takes less than 5 minutes to cross the river and is $39 return per car.

Content: It’s an exciting moment stepping foot on Cape Tribulation beach, where the reef meets the rainforest (and not just any rainforest, the oldest rainforest in the world estimated to be 180 million years old, which is even older than the Amazon)

Emmagen Creek

Content: Swim in the water hole at the stunning Emmagen Creek. It is about a 15 minute walk from where you park your car, following the path to the left. This is the furthest point you can drive along the coast until it becomes a 4WD only road. Even though the road says it’s for 2WD’s, it’s pretty sketchy and should be taken very carefully.
